Yeah - I dug for a while and couldn’t find any justification for that number.

This doesn’t clear it up much, but it’s conflated numbers. The 1,000 year number is that the level of the Danube is at a 1,000 year low. That says nothing about the age of the exposed bones.

The Magyars settled in Hungary in 895 and were pagans, so they went around killing people and plundering until they wee eventually Christianized. But what really ticked the Europeans off was that they ate the last mammoths.

But at least they made some tasty goulash out of the mammoth meat.
