Yesterday, the President signed new Executive Orders expanding the definition of who is excluded from Birthright Citizenship. While there is an absolute likelihood that all those really smart attorneys and other people in the Executive branch came up with the updated policies independent of anything I floated here, in the blogosphere, and through indirect channels, I will take it as a win. Even if independently arrived at by others, the ideas floated here definitely appear to have been ground into the sausage making process of the new policies.
Never underestimate the impact of Free Republic on national debates! -- Back in 2008, when I was a completely unknown congressional candidate running against one of the most corrupt and powerful congressmen in US history and did not even know what FreeRepublic was, it was a Freeper (Hope you are still out there and in good health, Rusty!) who elevated my campaign on this forum and got the attention of Michelle Malkin and other members of the national press, enabling my campaign to give John Murtha a run for his money. For once, we have a president who actually is fighting over the straight up principles involved, rather than some personal payoff like the Clinton/Obama/Biden way.
There is no peace without occasional wars, and no war without risk, requiring reasoned, resolute bravery, which the OP points out—Trump's humanitarian side is making this an armed conflict like no other. It looks fierce, but he stops short of Truman's solution, which has been giving Middle East allies time and incentive to gear up. It's not like he could count on NATOstan these days.

I remember that. There was also a guy, possibly a lawyer, who had a large bunch of links about the death of Vince Foster.
That slaughter on October 7 went against everything Western Civ is supposed to stand for. If there is some belt tightening going on in a relatively well-off nation because of it, I don’t see the moral equivalence you would like to create.
Times have changed. We are now in a time of instantaneous electronic operations and feedback. There may be echoes of past wars; but there will never be another like Vietnam. Take the casualty rate for one example. The Afghanistan/Iraq casualty rate was 5% of Vietnam’s, because of advances in war tech and field medicine, and that was decade(s) ago already. The new tech accompanying this present conflict is space-age in comparison with all past conflicts.
Stay strong. There will never be perfection on earth by anyone for anything. But we can advance, and we have been doing so.

I opposed this policy from day one.
It is not the Republican Party that I was promised.
Accepting the bait and switch is a non starter—at least with me.
Those who do accept it are dooming the Party for the long term—and unfortunately this quagmire looks like it will be long term.
It comes down to who was harmed.
Israel, as the ones who were attacked on October 7th, are justified in retaliating against Hamas.
Trying to leverage that event into justifying America's operations against Iran over two years after the fact (especially when Israel seems content to stay out of it so long as we're the ones fighting) is absurd.
In our system, we have access to our representatives who have influence over policy. But once a policy has been enacted and lives are on the line, we should have the decency to keep an open mind, even if our side didn’t win the debate, and fight on with facts, not fears of what may happen, but has not yet happened. Not crossing that line is what I mean by keeping an open mind. The time for open condemnation and rebellion, in relation to the prior 47 years of Iranic bellicosity, has not yet been reached.
When people use language like “absurd” to describe a policy of this grave geopolitical importance, I tend to tune out.
