As Tennessee Republicans gear up to choose their nominee for governor on August 6, the race between U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn and U.S. Representative John Rose has seemingly become more competitive than many observers expected, according to one poll.

Tuberville in Alabama has my blessing, not that it counts for much. The state is redder than Tennessee and he’ll finish out his term-one task at a time.
Lumberjacks, Fishermen, Farmers......pure BS that poll tests well. It mostly began with that stupid Lamar Alexander red flannel shirt in the 80's.
Blackburn(and Hagerty) were both a breath of fresh air after Alexander, Corker, and Frist. The only thing I can say in their favor is that Frist beat Sasse, Corker kept the seat and Alexander kept the seat of Fred Thompson. We needed most the R after their names. I don’t care for the unknown should she win.
That would be in November 2028, with the governor appointing a replacement until then. How would that be a "distraction"?

If she (will) win in November, I’m not sure if TN laws for replacement of her Senate seat. Probably a pick to hold it until a special election.

Very simple. Appointing a successor, even for 2 years would require another expensive election run just to finish out her term. Her term ends in 2030. One unnecessary race, maybe two if the appointed successor is not given 2 years.

Look. The senate is more important than the governorship. It’s more auto-pilot in a red state. State govenment is the JV team.
I was voter #113, @ 12:00 Noon. Turnout for in person looks pathetic. My wife was #114.
I mean anything can happen, but if we are in danger of losing Tennessee in 2028 we have a lot more to worry about...
Governor appoints replacement - election would take place in November 2028 to fill out the remainder of the term.
I guess she could appoint the outgoing governor Bill Lee. That could keep it safe and he’s 66 y/o per Alexa. Don’t know much about him either. I just don’t enjoy taking chances. The GOP is not that smart most of us can agree.
Heading out of state, but voted for Rose this morning before I left. Blackburn will probably win, but it could be close. I actually was encouraged by some of the things that Friitts was saying, but he will come in third. One of our perennial problems here is that two conservatives run in a three-way race and split the vote, enabling the less conservative candidate to win. One plus that we have, though is this: Our RINO’s are more conservative than your conservatives.
After seeing the campaigning I’d have to choose Monty Fritts over the China-dealing farmer and the woman who still has four years on her Senate term. Fritts talks like a citizen rather than someone expecting to be cross-examined by a jury.
That usually means that person doesn’t have to bother keeping track of previous lies.
The governors of each state selecting their US Senator was a far better way of governing.
Wife and I both voted for Fritts, who is a “more freedom, less government” conservative. IMHO, voting for a 74 year old woman who has declined to answer a detailed questionnaire about where she stands on gun rights is a BAD idea. She will be a puppet of her staff if she is elected, which she probably will be.
She’s already got a job.
