Winona police are investigating after all eight of the city’s Flock cameras were cut down and stolen.
It’s the latest city in the state to experience Flock camera theft or vandalism; cameras have been reported stolen or damaged in Duluth, Plymouth, Faribault, Edina and Anoka County.
Winona police say officers initiated an investigation on Saturday night when law enforcement realized there had been no recent camera activity.
Officers searched the locations of the Flock cameras and found the camera poles cut down near the base and discarded in the weeds, according to Winona police. The cameras were removed.

Funny how it didn’t become a problem until the Left started to claim that they were being used to help catch illegal aliens
People do not like being watched for some odd reason...............
I will never understand honest people who hate cameras.
criminals I get.
I never understand surveillance state nazis. Maybe it’s the snappy Hugo Boss uniforms.
As soon as it costs more than it’s worth these scumbags will scrap them.
huh? It’s been a problem for about as long as they existed due to the implications of a police state and tracking of anyone and everyone at all times everywhere. It’s absurd to suggest people didn’t care about them.
Because we have a lot of wannabe Lavrenty Berias that are itching to get into positions of power these days.
“Show me the man, and I’ll show you the crime” becomes much easier with mass surveillance tools like this.
It’s just a camera.
It’s just a checkpoint.
It’s just a temporary law.
It’s just a train ride.
It’s just a camp.
If your child or someone you love is kidnapped or murdered, you would change your tune in a microsecond.
It’s just a shower.
Why do you need to see everything a person does in public? I never understood a persons need to be such an intrusive busybody.
Maybe I don’t want my accidently tripping on my face over a curb or picking my nose recorded on camera. Maybe other embarrassing acts, generally harmless but recorded in public can be used later to humiliate people?
We all make mistakes and do foolish thing accidently in public, we should not have it all recorded, available to some government bureaucrat for their entertainment and possible abuse later.
You really cannot see how this can be abused?
They call them Flock cameras because we are just Sheep now ?
Because I think of this from the perspective of a victim and not from the criminals perspective.
If someone you know is murdered or is kidnapped. You would suddenly love cameras being everywhere to help you find your loved one or catch who took or killed them.
Criminals don’t care either otherwise with the rise in camera surveillance (in and out of buildings/homes) crime would be down.
I don’t like being watched because I am a freedom loving person. I am old enough to remember a time when you could drive across town or the country and nobody knew where you were. Then came instant transactional/electronic credit cards, hotels requiring ID and card, ATM’s tracking you, then slowly cameras on very pole, building, and doorway and along every highway. Police will even get all the ring cameras along a route from every home/building that has one to spy on people on a public roadway.
We are not a free people anymore.
I dont care if the criminals “care”. I want to be able to find the criminal that murdered, raped or kidnapped my loved one.
You understand that’s not what they are being used for though right? They are being used to track people for everything. Many people have been mistakenly arrested due to flock cameras. LEO’s and others using them to stalk people. Not okay with that at all.
False emotional appeal. Such appeals have been used to justify utterly horrendous and inhumane acts against humanity.
Germany was famous for making the case Jews where real health hazards living in squaller and rounding them up was for the public good. you can find their propaganda videos on that. You are thinking the same way.
Why do you need to see everything a person does in public? I never understood a persons need to be such an intrusive busybody.
~~~
It’s called “Public”.
I used to hate the idea of public cameras. Seemed a bit too police state for me.
And if we lived in a corrupt banana republic, I’d probably still hate the cameras.
But I have watched enough crime shows to know how invaluable they are. When there aren’t “public” cameras to go to, the police have to canvas areas around crime scenes and find private cameras that may have captured the movements of suspects. A LOT more crimes get solved and criminals get convicted these days because of them!
But hay, now I can’t pick my hose when I’m sitting at that traffic light anymore. Dammit!!!
On the plus side, Winona’s not shoplifting anymore.
