HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHP) โ A new Pennsylvania law will eliminate felony charges for prostitutes who knowingly had HIV at the time.
Rep. Ben Waxman (D-Philadelphia), who co-sponsored the legislation to change the law, described it as "outdated" and "inhumane."
"Today, HIV is a manageable condition that can be treated and controlled with medication," Waxman said in a release. "With a regimen of antiretroviral therapy, people with HIV can live long, productive and healthy lives and reduce transmission. We cannot criminalize anyone for their health status; itโs simply inhumane."
The old law was able to elevate a misdemeanor prostitution charge to a third-degree felony charge.

Sure: let’s make it easier for somebody to be a super-spreader of a disease that — while perhaps manageable to some degree — will still change many, many lives for years. But by all means: make it easier for people to break the law with lesser consequences.
The only winner I see here is big pharma
For me this is a no brainer.
If you hire a prostitute you know what you’re getting.
You throw the dice and take your chances.
Wear a rain coat when you go out in the rain.
Those treatments are extremely costly. Who gets to pay for them? < /sarc >
Apparently we have HIV elves who run around at night with their endless bags of funding they got from the infinite money orchards, bestowing riches on willful victims and don't hurt anyone else.
Give Waxman HIV and see if his opinion changes.
I always laugh when a society thinks it can "regulate" to a point of safety a vice that has always resulted in the destruction of civilization. Yes, this includes legalized marijuana too.
Gentlemen: Only ever stick it in your wife.
Ladies: Only ever spread ‘em for your husband.
He’s a democRAT. Maybe also a fag. Maybe already has GRIDS ...
Superspreaders. Wear a mask.
The point of safety is fine with me.
Prostitutes in Vegas practice their trade in safety.
Prostitutes where their trade is illegal do not.
I will never hire one because of my moral code. But I know others moral code is lacking in morals.
And how about spouses/partners of someone who is hooking up with the hooker?
Are you suggesting they know what they’re getting, too?
What "safety?"
Prostitutes in Vegas practice their trade in safety.
Prostitutes get murdered all the time in Vegas. That place represents a microcosm of the destruction of society.
So Scott Weiner. Cal is copy paste for Penn?
It is morally wrong I agree.
But it is the responsibility of the purchaser of the service.
He knows the risk he is taking and the risk to his spouse.
STDs are not news.
Making prostitution illegal has not been any great success.
Make it legal and regulate it. It can’t be any worse.
I suppose that there are prostitutes working outside the system there like everywhere else.
Leftists are a clear and present danger to life and liberty.
Neither has making murder, robbery, buglary or sexual assault illegal been very successful.
Sometimes society just has to spell out what is acceptable for civil living, even if its commission is rampant. It's called normative morality.
Ben Waxman is a blooming idiot. Don’t vote Democrat for your state elections. Period.
