Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin is facing a conservative backlash after reaffirming his opposition to amnesty in a social media post, with critics arguing the hardline message contradicted comments he made hours earlier during an immigration speech in Oklahoma.
Hours after speaking at the National Governors Association Summer Meeting in Oklahoma City, Mullin wrote on X: "NO amnesty for illegal aliens. Ever."
"We are a nation of laws," he wrote. "If you are illegally present in the United States of America—you will be detained and deported. Period."
The post did little to quell criticism from some conservatives, who argued it conflicted with remarks Mullin made earlier in the day.
"Why were you at the National Governors Association Summer Meeting today saying the exact opposite of what you are posting now?" one user wrote on X. "Did you suddenly radically change your mind about America's immigration policy in the past couple of hours? Or are you a liar?"
Former Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino also criticized Mullin's remarks, writing on X that "Voters asked for mass deportations. Clear demand. High priority. No ambiguity." He added, "The guy running DHS is making the case for 'immigration reform.' We've seen this script before."

Put Homan in charge. Or someone approved by Homan that can be the public face in DC, while Homan acts unimpeded.
Markwayne Mullin: Migrants Can Help ‘Plug … Holes’ in the Economy
"Homeland Security chief Markwayne Mullin suggested Saturday the federal government could help employers by approving a greater inflow of visa-worker migrants."

Trump needs to get rid of him...NOW.
Funny to think he gave up a safe Senate seat for this.
Uh, if the comments made "hours earlier" is in the story I missed them.
Told all you guys in the rah-rah section this guy could not be trusted.
Can someone get the Mullin transcript from youtube in readable form, so we can see what he actually said?

He made comments about immigration reform.
“If we’re looking to grow our economy, then we need to look at making more permanent solutions, there’s a way to utilize labor where we’re not having the participation rate we need to... and we can plug those holes.”
Still waiting for ANY commie socialist backlash. They ran a nazi in Maine, ya know.
There is no contradiction. He wants the law changed to make the presence of those people legal, so that they can be here legally.
Simple. Hugely wrong, but simple.
The worst of it is, I think Trump has always been good with that. Both men want an orderly process, but I still disagree. We simply must get the welfare cases in this country to want to work or we're toast anyway.
Is it me or does allowing more legal workers to enter the U.S. make it even easier for illegals to enter as well? The more people coming in the harder it is to control the border. JMHO.
How about an exchange program. For every non citizen who wants to enter for work and has proof of employment we send 4 able bodied but unwilling to work people in their place.
“Voters asked for mass deportations. Clear demand. High priority.”
Bovino is flat out wrong in his understanding of the American voter. MAGA makes a big unforced error if it goes the Bovino way.
A majority of voters support deporting murderers, rapists .... ranging down to DUI, Drunk n Disorderly. A majority of voters, including me, do not support the deporting of illegals whose crime is that they did not play “mother-may-I” with big government. We see it as a big waste of money to try to deport those who work hard, take care of their family, and sit beside us in church.
This is both a practical issue of winning elections and an ideological issue. It is best that Bovino supporters not commit political suicide over this issue.
I would be good with that, as long as they have the option to return once they can demonstrate that they’ve learned to work.
“Told all you guys in the rah-rah section this guy could not be trusted.
For damn sure. We learned all we needed to know about this coward on January 6, 2021, when he cheered a racist DC cop for murdering an unarmed White woman.
How does he differ from Trump?
Wrong. We’re either a nation of laws, or not. If you didn’t follow the process, or overstayed your VISA, you broke the law. Not the way you start with your new country.
Lies!
Multiple polls find majorities favoring deporting people in the country illegally. Examples include Reuters/Ipsos (~61% support deporting unauthorized immigrants), Fox News (~56% favor deporting those here illegally), Axios/Ipsos (~66% support deporting those in the country illegally)
Borders are not 'big government'. They're why we have government.
We see it as a big waste of money to try to deport those who work hard, take care of their family, and sit beside us in church.
Bait and switch BS! Deport the invaders who broke our laws to overcrowd our communities and drain our public resources. These invaders are a net drain, and we don't want them here. You want to go to church with foreigners? Go abroad and live with foreigners!
We don't acquiesce to the flouting of our laws, at our expense in wages and the supply of private and public resources.
Mullin was another awful pick for this particular job. Shame he hasn’t picked better people.
This guy is a sell out.
Oh well, maybe it is just too late to expect any better.
You are the problem. You fail to understand how many of these people live off the taxpayers. many are nice people, but they should go be nice in their own countries.
We elected Trump for mass deportations.
If he really didn’t mean it, he never should have promised it. This seems to be the problem with every thing promised in 2024.
