This summer, torrential rains have washed away Texas neighborhoods, dangerous heat has blanketed swaths of the country, and smoke from Canadian wildfires has choked communities as far south as Florida.
Research makes clear that global warming is making extreme weather events more frequent and severe. Yet the climate crisis has largely disappeared from the political agenda, with many Democrats who once described it as an existential threat now shying away from talking about it.
Now US activists are pushing back against this trend of “climate hushing”, arguing it is misguided. During the summer’s federal recess, during which lawmakers leave the nation’s capital to work directly within their home states or districts, demonstrators organized by the environmental advocacy coalition Climate Action Campaign are calling on representatives to put climate back on the political agenda.
“The long history of the climate movement proves that we move fastest when there’s real pressure from the grassroots,” said Bill McKibben, the environmental author and activist who co-founded climate non-profit 350.org, “All the evidence shows those grassroots are as worried about [the] climate crisis as they ever were.”
The events, set to take place over the next month in at least 20 states during the House and Senate recess periods, will mobilize members of groups including local Sierra Club chapters, the senior citizen-led climate organization Third Act, which McKibben founded, and local affiliates of the racial justice group the NAACP.

The new commies are so convinced by the old commies that the world is ending that even they can’t get them to tone it down for the elections.
They believe it was actually about the ‘climate’ and not about power and control.
The puppet masters have found something more important to them and the old useful idiots are not on board.
All of the tax dollars collected would not do anything to control or change the weather, and God help us if anyone or group of weirdos figures out how to do it. The U.S. has done quite a bit to reduce pollution and there is not much that can be done to countries that pollute the most, like China and India, some countries in Africa, etc. Why don’t we hear the loonies criticize them? Also, there has been much more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in the past and life thrived. The Atlantic has not drowned N.Y. and not likely any time soon. A bunch of hype imho.

The problem that both Democrats and Republicans have is their truly focused constituents turn off the middle of the road voters. These focused, some might be called fanatics, panic whenever their hot button issue isn’t number one, front and center. Any acknowledgement of the issue, whatever it is, by either party, during an election drives moderate voters away. Someone viewed by the focused voter as not centered on the same focus leads the focused voter to attack rather than help. Thirty or forty years ago the Democrats were really good at the dog whistle, a signal that only the focused voter could hear. But the dog is no longer as well trained and can’t hear the whistle, so they attack their own party or form a new party. The focused voter no longer plays the long game where they operate in private using the party apparatus to achieve their gains.
Politicians who want to get elected are skirting the climate issue because it is turning into a political loser. Activists who have nothing riding on the elections continue to want to be disruptive. The split here proves, neither side really gives a hoot about the climate. Because both sides know it is a phony issue.

The vast majority of time there is no unbiased research which shows anything of the sort. We will be 5 or 10 years into the "climate's" next “cooling phase” before it starts to get acknowledged. The evidence of one-sided reporting on this is overwhelming. In the continental United States if you look only at weather recording stations which are properly located for accuracy... i.e. not in the middle of parking lots in the middle of a concrete jungle... There has been no warming in the past couple of decades.

He showed that the “extremists” could actually win—not just the nomination but actual elections.
If you know you can win why should you settle for anything less.
Remember the old mainstream mantra was “they are too extreme—they can never be elected”.
I think presidents, especially, get elected largely on the basis of who the alternative is. For example, anyone with an actual pulse probably would have beaten Bob Dole. He reminded me of the walking dead. I never saw him smile, not once on the campaign trail. Trump ran against a woman who many people suspected was inebriated and who couldn’t put together a coherent thought. Probably any articulate person would have beaten her. (Apparently, at this point, she’s the Democratic front runner for ‘28. It boggles the mind.)
Fortunately, though, the way The Founders set things up, it’s pretty hard for just one guy to really screw the country. Even if they try. We’re relatively safe regardless of who is running the center ring.
Global Warming is real. It’s probably also mostly man-made. But the set of economic prescriptions offered by global scientific groups are nothing more than tromping on the gas pedal to accelerate the pace of off-shoring manufacturing to countries that are under no current obligation to curtail their own energy consumption. That’s the very definition of a scam... Minus the Nigerian Prince.
as a 50+ year Geologist, I can say that Climate Change is real, and has been with us since the first day of our Creation. Long before man ever walked the earth. But there were less chances for grifting in the younger days.
I largely agree, but as we saw with biden, it doesn't take much to simply stand down on border security and allow millions of invading migrants to flood into the USA. Imagine two administrations in a row with an open border policy and a bunch of activist, foreign-born judges blocking any initiative to close it or to deport the invaders.
