We must decide, and soon, if a “religion” that preaches slavery and mass slaughter of those who refuse to convert is compatible with American religious liberty.

In Terminello v. City of Chicago (1949), Supreme Court Associate Justice Robert Jackson wrote:

"The choice is not between order and liberty. It is between liberty with order and anarchy without either. There is danger that, if the court does not temper its doctrinaire logic with a little practical wisdom, it will convert the constitutional Bill of Rights into a suicide pact."

It has also been said that some Muslims don’t want to kill infidels. They just want other Muslims to do it for them.

There are certainly Muslims that don’t want to kill anyone, nor do they want other Muslims to kill anyone. The horror of it is they’re not living the text and intention of their faith, and Muslims that are think them apostates and do want to kill them.

While the First Amendment guarantees freedom of religion, we now must determine how far that freedom goes and whether it amounts to a civilizational suicide pact. In his Notes on the State of Virginia, Thomas Jefferson wrote:

The error seems not sufficiently eradicated, that the operations of the mind, as well as the acts of the body, are subjects to the coercion of the laws. But our rulers can have authority over such natural rights only as we have submitted to them. The rights of conscience we never submitted, we could not submit. We are answerable for them to our God. The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

But there are many, MANY people on this very forum who think that when Iranians say "Death to America" that it is just rhetoric, they don't really mean it, and if they obtain nuclear weapons, they will by be bound by the perimeter of sanity and would never use them.

I believe the “freedom of religion” means there cannot be an official government mandated religion. I also believe Islam does not conform to any notion of religion, but rather a dangerous cult that is not compatible with our free society. There is no possible path to Islam receiving 1st amendment protection.

Some Muslims, indeed, don’t want to kill infidels. They want the more fanatic Mohamedans to do that job. Some are lazy. Some are just not interested in going to Paradise just yet. Some Muslims don’t want to kill infidels but often their sons are clearer about the religion and its obligations.

The only viable solution is probably one that is impossible for this society to take i.e. expulsion or forced conversion to Christianity with three generations of enforced attendance at services and expulsion of those who do not maintain their new allegiance.

No, many of them will not be converted in their hearts but succeeding generations will lose their Islamic attachment. That is pretty much how it went in Spain after the Expulsion in 1492.

That regime most likely engineered the invasion. I suspect these will be amnestied quickly and will be expected to vote for the effectively Communist regime in the next election if Nicaragua’s pattern is not followed. I do think it would be more dangerous to the current rulers if they try to end elections like can be done in Latin America.
