My Marine Sgt manager spent part of a tour in Okinawa. My father missed it in 1945 along with the non-invasion of Japan, which is fine with me, I live.

(My uncle Loren, mother's eldest brother and a Marine, did not miss Okinawa, Iwo Jima, or Tarawa and survived.)

My Army Sgt father also missed visiting Japan, a beneficiary of the bomb(s) no doubt. He was in the 86th infantry in Europe, cleaning things up, but would undoubtedly have been called upon to invade Japan if that needed to happen.

Carried the BAR, so there’s that.

Never spoke much at all about the war. Like never. Other than a couple of humorous stories but NEVER about combat.
