People are going nuts over this. And acting like the books won’t exist after they are fed into AI.

They are idiots. If someone wants the book...go buy it nothing is stopping them.

Once anything is digital, it can be changed. That is the worry. The anti-American propaganda that our public schools are largely teaching our youth is already bad enough.

I WANT the old literature and writings to be integrated into the AI. The AI people are NOT buying one-of-ones. But let’s take a significant rare book that’s important, Margaret Sanger’s “Pivot of Civilization”, or Lothrop Stoddard’s “The Rising Tide of Colour”. Yes, a copy of each will be destroyed. Quite likely NOT a First Edition. The books are uncommon, but not one of a kind. This is the book version of taking a 1970 Dodge Challenger, and destroying it for a Dukes of Hazzard jump so that millions can see a cool video. George Gilder’s “Sexual Suicide” was a success as the only major anti-Woman’s Lib book of the early ‘70s, but the feminists at New York Times Publishing made sure it was never reissued. Gilder wrote an update (”Men and Marriage”) in the ‘80s for a small publisher (Pelican Press), but that is really a different book. I hope that AI vendors buy a copy for $59 on ABEbooks and tears it apart so that we can get at the information.

Maybe you do not realize many books go out of print. Many books go out of print in a few years, more popular ones can last a few decades.

Destroying them just for a legal glitch based on a black robed tyrants’ opinion is malignant ignorance.

You never been able to buy one copy of a textbook and photo copy copies for the rest of the class. That’s basically what’s going on here. They’re buying one book, scanning it and reusing the content over and over.

exactly

a bunch of nonsense

they only need to scan one copy of a book. And in most cases these are crap books no one wanted to begin with that would of ended up in a landfill.

Well that physical copy won’t exist anymore. And if it’s rare, it’s probably not that easy to find. And they aren’t scanning them to make them available. Just to feed their copyright infringing beast.

If the book is the last remaining copy I could see a problem but there are still original copies of “war and peace” around.
