The idea of the commencement speaker always seemed silly to me. They wait till the last moments of your education to bring in someone to inspire you. I would think it would be better to bring in someone on the FIRST day of school to get your head straight and on the path to success. What would you tell a student on the first day of school?

DON’T BELIVE THE LIES YOUR COMMIE TEACHERS TRU TO TELL YOU.
I told my kids that we were their primary teachers. The school teachers are supposed to teach subject matter, but we would teach them life lessons.
“I hear a lot of homeschoolers only spend two hours a day teaching but the kids do way better than government schooled kids.”
That’s how it was with my brother’s three boys. Their mom home-schooled them. The format was un-structured, but everything was covered. They had to take the exact exams as the other NYS students at the same time, and my nephews scored at the top every time. (They scored higher than kids in higher grades.)
Don’t believe any statement from your teacher that includes the words “fair” or “democracy”.
Yes, the world was different ... that was (very shortly) before they started demanding "equal rights".
We helped our kids a lot with homework and just sitting around the table during and after dinner discussing stuff. Lots of opportunities to turn the liberal stuff they learned at school into discussions of how the world actually works.
Out of a class of 30 kids, ours would be one of 2 or 3 raised with conservative values. The adversity early on has kept them in good stead now that they are adults.
“Finish your breakfast son, your sister will be up in an hour. We’ll then all study patriotic Americans of the Revolutionary War.”
“Your calculus work is completed, and you’ll be accepted into MIT, at just 16 years old, ahead of those in the public school system. “
“There comes your sister with her Bible studies on devout women of prayer in history”
“The adversity early on has kept them in good stead now that they are adults.”
💯% As PKs, we were the weird outcasts throughout school. But we had to get through it and survive. Nothing like living that childhood to give you total immunity to peer pressure for the rest of your life.
Looking at IMDB's site shows that he worked pretty steadily in his acting career, taking ongoing roles and guest spots on television into account - probably more work than the average performer enjoys. I like that he kept a distance from LoonyLand and was selective about his projects. Gone eight years now...R. Lee left a unique and indelible impression that no one will ever match.
