The ntsb has a very good case. The alleged " rocket" was the tail section of the plane on fire with full throttle and no inputs.

the chaffed wiring in the empty center fuel tank was a known problem Boeing didnt fix urgently enough.

And it was difficult to diagnose, inspect, and repair.

I believe the plane was shot down by a missile but this story starts off with the author “taking a mental health day off”. No one spoke like that in 1996. You would get laughed at or punched out talking that nonsense.

My impression is that it was shot down. They say that the radar demonstrates MULTIPLE transits going up to flight 800. That doesn’t sound like an accidental launch, and it would be hard to hide a military launch of that order. I have suspected it was a terrorist attack, and that Clinton didn’t want the bad press that would come with his refusal to eliminate Bin Laden when he had the chance.
