I remember similar controversy decades ago over selling AWACS to the Saudis. Individual Saudis are not exactly model citizens, but the AWACS themselves didn’t cause many problems from what I recall.

Even if it is a knee-jerk reaction, that is precisely how I would expect Trump to react. He isn't the kind of person who endures being told what to do, and I am fine with that even if the rebellion is just an automatic one.

Netanyahu is not wrong in his statement: "“He's not exactly a model ally of the United States,” Netanyahu said, asserting that the move “doesn’t make Turkey a friendly state to the United States.”

But even still, it is not his decision. He knows it, and so does Trump.

I am personally opposed to selling them to Turkey, but I expect some technologies simply won't be included. So be it. Your post about Saudi Arabia and the AWACS is relevant.

I recall we had to give Israel additional aid in order to "make up" for us selling AWACs to Saudi Arabia.

Congress has oversight over foreign armed sales and can block them. President Trump said Turkey was ready to join Iran in a war on Israel, and presumably Greece to recover some of the lost Ottoman Empire and only his diplomacy prevented it. For some strange reason he really likes some dictators and despises leaders that had to win relatively free elections.
