Tensions rise between GOP leader Thune, White House over stalled Trump agenda

Tensions are rising between Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and President Trump over the Senate GOP’s inability to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act or emergency funding for the Pentagon at a critical moment during Trump’s second term.

At a rally in Marietta, Ga., on Wednesday, Trump fumed at the Senate’s failure to advance his agenda, telling a crowd: “We’re having a hard time in the Senate. … It’s like the Senate is a place you send things when you want them to die.”

Then on Thursday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that Trump’s “patience is running out” with Thune as he struggles to move the president’s agenda through the Senate.

“The Senate needs to do its job,” she warned.

That criticism didn’t sit well with Thune, who appeared annoyed when a reporter asked about the press secretary’s comments.

“Maybe she or somebody else ought to get on the phone and get the votes. Right? It’s 50 around here,” Thune shot back.

“Instead of pointing the finger at Republicans, they might think about going after the people who are stopping it on the floor, which is the Democrats,” Thune added. “And if there are Republicans they think are gettable, get on the phone.”

Thune’s allies rushed to his defense and criticized the White House for undercutting the Senate GOP leader publicly.

“I have 1000 percent confidence in Thune, and anybody in the White House who thinks he’s not a good leader isn’t qualified for their job,” Republican Sen. Thom Tillis (N.C.) declared in response to the White House criticism.

Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Susan Collins (R-Maine) — who voted against the SAVE America Act when the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) offered it as an amendment to a budget reconciliation also defended Thune.

Sure thing, chief.

The Administration’s strategy has been like holding its breath and pushing on string.

I believe a simple majority of Republicans, in this case 27, can remove the Republican majority leader.

As you may recall I’m very very disappointed with Rand concerning defense and foreign policy— he’s got a dangerous ostrich syndrome oblivious to threats against us. In today’s world of nuclear weapons and long- range missiles, this is especially dangerous: we have to be proactive in eliminating known threats before they can reach us, imho.

However, when he’s right about something— he’s a definite plus. Rand has been bird- dogging the Covid issue for years… including the American government funding of the Covid making factory in communist China.

You may find this interesting today 24 July about COVID ( and it cites - credits Rand, too);

“5 GOP Senators move to debate new majority leader. Then a majority of GOP Senators vote to replace him. So 27 GOP Senators hold the power to replace him. Get er done.”

NC hasn’t had a US Senator worth spit since Jesse Helms.

Senator No was the best. Since then Dole, Tillis, Edwards and that hideous Kay Hagan. I am missing one. Puke.

When the majority of Americans across the spectrum support Voter ID and it still can’t pass, we are no longer a Republic.

Stunning that Thune is telling others to do HIS job. The losers defending him speak volumes as well. Cornyn and Tillis, in particular, have only proven they are the losers the American people pegged them to be by working hard to thwart righteous policy just to defend their deepstate/rino BS.

Well since you don’t support “the Trump agenda” - this is a good thing, right?

By any other measure, the damage Thune is causing the US by his resistance to passing the SAVE Act would be considered treasonous, in the broadest sense of the word of course.

Legislative ability to get to 60 is one thing but the failure to use Recess Appointments by all the R Senators is criminal. That tells me a lot when all the Republicans go along with that stoppage.

We don’t need 60. We can do it with 50 + JD and he won’t do it. He won’t do anything to help. Total traitor. And there’s WAY MORE than just him in our party. Sickening.
