GOP Rep. Kat Cammack pitches mandatory background checks for Congress staffers over claims foreign agents running wild

WASHINGTON — Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) is calling for all congressional staff to undergo background checks and dishing on growing foreign influence campaigns that she describes as “the worst kept secret on Capitol Hill.”

Cammack has introduced a resolution that would also mandate disclosure of staffers’ nationalities as well as any payments by foreign governments to current or new Capitol hill hires.

The proposal comes after reports emerged last month that the FBI has been investigating a senior GOP aide for allegedly acting as a foreign agent on behalf of Qatar, as well as revelations that spies for Cuba and China have been working in members’ offices.

In an interview Tuesday, Cammack told The Post that her fellow Floridians — Republican Mario Diaz-Balart and Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz — are just two of the members who have been subject to foreign influence campaigns.

Over the past decade, Diaz-Balart has been targeted by Qatar over his support for a bill designating the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization — and also discovered Cuban spies working to gain the trust of his staff and even place an informant in his office.

“Foreign interference and spying in congressional offices is absolutely a real thing and an ongoing threat,” said Diaz-Balart’s chief of staff, Cesar Gonzalez.

“We know it first-hand. The Cuban regime has attempted multiple times to infiltrate both the office of Congressman Diaz-Balart [and] his brother [Lincoln Diaz-Balart] when he was a member of Congress [from 1993 to 2011].”

Wasserman Schultz, meanwhile, caught a member of her staff who was found later to be taking cash from a foreign government “stealing different files,” according to Cammack, who revealed that the Justice Department will soon release a report cataloging “the issues with staff being placed that are actually foreign agents.”

No surprise here,,,,,Dems have thrown open their party to gain all the votes they can, legal or illegal. Maybe Dominion has expanded their operations to include illegal voter registration?

Let me guess..
A sufficient amount of campaign cash will make the background check a bed of roses.

GREAT move, Kat!

Full FBI background checks/clearances on EVERY Senator, Representative and staff members should be mandatory!

I.e, when a person decides to run for Senate or Congress, they should have to endure the same (or more intense) FBI scrutiny I had to endure when I volunteered to become a Naval Officer in 1963!

And their staff hires, also!

Never have understood why I had to be cleared and qualify for a Secret Clearance before I took my Oath of Office and CongressCritters don’t!

Anybody that works inside the Capitol Building, or any Federal building, and draws a Federal paycheck should be finger-printed, and have a background check done of them. If those procedures aren’t being followed, then someone needs to be fired.

Last week I heard that MTG might have been placing Qatar spies in offices of congressmen, and that is what (allegedly) kicked off this effort by Kat. ????

——

Did You Know?

By winning an election (or “winning” wink wink) that individual has been “deemed” to have passed a background check.

Staffers are an issue as well, no doubt. How about Congress itself? Leftists routinely release presidential IRS tax returns and similar document dumps.

Let’s see the goods on these SOBs before they even run for Congress, or get appointed to some byzantine bureaucratic alphabet agency.

From the article, the infiltrators have been pointed at representatives of both parties, both for the reason you said, but also to steal files, and attack representatives they oppose.

Oh, now they’re investigating, after Wasserstein-Schultz with the Pakistanis and Diane Feinstein with the Chinese aides “helping” them, decades ago. I remember when Michelle Bachman was hooted out of Congress for wanting to investigate how many foreign muslims were in our government — again, decades ago.
