1. Don’t get into an auto accident that totals your vehicle even if it’s 100 percent the other guy’s fault. Well, I guess that’s kind of useless advice, as that’s just unavoidable.
2. If you do, DO NOT HAVE ST FARM INSURANCE! Not saying any of the others might not be just as bad, but I’ve have NEVER dealt with such spectacularly poor company structure, incompetence at every level, lack of action, and idiocy - in my entire 70 years of life. Oh, the stories I could tell you... But too many to even start.

I agree completely with your statement #2. State Farm screwed us over after years of loyalty. Went Geico. They were very efficient up to a point with one issue, but now I’m skeptical there, too.
Someone on FR once said you should change car insurers every five years or so. I can’t vouch for the validity of that proposal, but I do think the days of getting any kind of points for being a longtime or loyal customer are over, for regular consumer products and services.
