DOJ seizes over 1,000 internet domains that illegally streamed World Cup games

The Justice Department announced Monday that it snatched over 1,000 websites used to illegally stream matches during the just-completed FIFA World Cup.

The final tally of sites snared includes the nearly 400 internet domains shut down by the end of June.

The seizures in the U.S. occurred through three enforcement actions, the Justice Department said in a release.

American authorities also worked with their counterparts in Latin America to block additional illegal streaming sites, including 14 in Argentina, 309 in Brazil, 1,140 in Colombia, 256 in the Dominican Republic, 223 in Ecuador and 28 in Peru.

“intellectual property” and artificial scarcity protected by the powers of the state is not the same as policing the THEFT of tangible merchandise and property.

Controlling distribution is where the real money is in markets, but while a broadcast of an “event” requires physical capital to transmit/distribute, what is being distributed is nothing but something to perceive or witness, and no physical capital is being stolen.

This is akin to guards keeping 7 year old children from trying to part the circus tent so they can force the 2 copper out of their pockets.
