RCP has Platner up by less than 1%. Look at RCP averages and actual results for the last two cycles in Maine up about 10 posts.
Platner lost this. I don’t think that’s *the* reason he’s being booted, but you’d better believe they know he’s losing and that contributed to the decision when whatever other horror we haven’t seen yet became known.

There have been no polls on any candidate other than Graham Plattner vs Susan Collins since the June 9 primary.
Janet Mills is now damaged goods. It would be very difficult for her to resurrect her campaign. (I did see a Janet Mills sign in a very prominent place in Downtown Portland this weekend.) Her chief of staff and campaign manager are traveling together in Europe (they are married to each other).
Just to be clear. The deadline to resign is Monday, July 13, 2026.* The deadline to replace is Monday, July 27, 2026. The state Dem Party Committee is the group that will choose a replacement. The Dems have a major state event at which most of the State Committee members will be at on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
* There are provisions for replacement after the deadline for catastrophic illness, condition or injury that has permanently and continuously incapacitated the candidate and would prevent performance of the duties of the office sought, . . . or dies prior to the general election.
