A BART spokesperson in the video said they were very effective in reducing crime.
People still try to "tailgate" in. I have to look around carefully before I enter and exit. There was this one guy who tried to follow behind me at Embarcadero BART and I was having none of it.

And while the news crew was filming, another sista tried to get through a gate that was open for someone exiting but didn’t make it in time. Then again, that could just be attributed to the historic pastime in the SF area of using an exit as an entrance.

While the new design has not yet been finalized, the gates will have clear swing barriers that will be very difficult to be pushed through, jumped over, or maneuvered under. Looks like a good idea for the NYC subway system. Would probably pay for itself over the long term.

“video might show why” was inadequate, similar to how 100% no longer means 100%, now you have to give 120% or 200% effort to show you are trying hard.
Seattle does not have that problem cause “Seattle is not a Turnstile City” and the entrance/egress points were specifically designed not to allow them.
