President Donald Trump has been warning recently that communism will pose a threat to the U.S. if Democrats win in the upcoming midterm elections.
Last week, he referred to Democrats as “hard core, godless Communists”.
But experts say his claims, echoed by Vice President J.D. Vance and other Republican leaders, are off base.
Here’s a closer look at the facts.
THE FACTS: No candidate openly belonging to the U.S. Communist Party has ever been elected to state or federal office, according to experts. Although there are fringes of the Democratic Party that have expressed support for communist ideas, experts say that they still advocate for a market-based economy and that it is inaccurate to paint the entire party with such a broad brush. Trump recently began referring to Democrats pejoratively as “Dumocrats.”
“The reality is that none of these major political figures in the Democratic Party, even those further out on the left, are identifying as communists,” said Marc Selverstone, director of presidential studies at the University of Virginia’s Miller Center for Public Affairs, adding that it’s an opportunity to portray Democrats as marginal figures.

There was a clip of Mamdani from a number of years ago, outlining what he foresees as the plan for the growth of socialism. At the end, he literally said the words “And then we’ll seize the means of production.” So obviously not a communist
I think you are overstating it when you say Chait agrees with President Trump. Yes, Chait has bee explicitly anti-Marxist in his own writing, which is part of why he criticizes the DSA wing. But he frames this as a centrist Democrat internal critique, not as validation of Trump’s characterization. He has called President Trump an actual threat to democracy numerous times.
That the media has to come out and ‘debunk’ means its true. Re: Covid origins, Hunter Biden’s laptop, just about any other thing dimissed/debunked as a ‘conspiracy theory’ for at least the last 15 years.
Restart HUAC and watch how fast they again try the public shaming of calling them communists. Hopefully we don’t go all weak in the knees this time and throw them in GITMO this time.

So Trump will have to educate voters and the best way to do that is through social media.

Trump ran a great campaign in 2024. He needs to do it again. He has the skills due to his business/reality TV background.
Trump and Vance are right. The AP is still the AP.
Stalin murdered about 7 million Ukrainian citizens. The New York Times denied it and received a Pulitzer prize for their reporting. They still have it.
How often does the AP demand the prize be returned or revoked. That’s just one story of many about the NYTs, the AP and other Democrats.

So, according to AP (and other MSM outlets), self proclaimed socialists, communists and nazis aren’t really socialists, communists and nazis because DJT pointed out that they are pointed out that they are self proclaimed socialists, communists and nazis.

With Sonny Hostin’s proclamation that she would “hold her nose” and vote for the self proclaimed nazi Graham Platner says it all. “They” actually believe that any socialist, communist or nazi is a better choice than any Republican - including the ultra liberal/RINO Susan Collins.

So where’s the follow-up article saying how ridiculous it is to associate Republicans with Nazis and Fascism.

The same people who have no problem brushing all conservatives with Nazi and racist tags are saying oh no the communists don’t have a foothold in the Democrat Party.
