Abigail was born to William Smith, a minister, and his wife, Elizabeth, in 1744 in Massachusetts. Despite having no access to formal education, she became an avid reader with access to many books through her father and grandfather.
Philosophy, government, law, and theology were all subjects she enjoyed and would serve as the foundation for her values and passions.
Concerning women’s education, she is known for writing, “If we mean to have Hero Statesmen and Philosophers, we should have learned women.”
She strongly opposed slavery and there are several letters to her husband on the subject. She wrote,
“I wish most sincerely that there was not a slave in the province. It always seemed to me to fight ourselves for what we are robbing the Negroes of, who have as good a right to freedom as we have.”

All the Christian and Social virtues will be banished the Land,
All that makes Life desireable,
And softens the ferocious passions of Man will assume a savage
deportment,
And like Cain of old,
Every Mans hand will be against his neighbour...
Abigail Adams letter to Thomas Jefferson, 18 August 1804
Abigail Adams was 19 years old when she married John Adams. She was only a month short of being 20 years old.
They become one of the most influential couples in United States history.
Just rewatched that hbo John Adams series , not sure how accurate it was but it was pretty good

John Adams: “Salt peter Abigail.”
Abigail Adams: “Pins, John.”
Abigail was super cool!
One of my favorite books is her biography, “Those Who Love”, by Irving Stone.
.
Excellent biography of the two for anyone interested...
