PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) – The Mt. Olive Pickle Company says it decided to withdraw from the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C., after a Confederate flag was included in an exhibit.
The company told Nexstar’s WNCT that they were invited to participate in the North Carolina exhibit.
“We are proud of our North Carolina roots, and we agreed to be a part of an exhibit, as presented to us, that would represent the best of our great state,” the company, based in Mount Olive, North Carolina, said in a statement...
The Confederate flag appeared in a video that played at the North Carolina exhibit.
Mt. Olive Pickle Company said they were unaware of that image was being used, and have since pulled out of the display.
“Our company stands on values of human dignity, opportunity, and freedom,” the company added in its statement.

Clearly these squishes never went to a Skynyrd concert back in the day.
Looks like opportunity is open for others now.
Adios, muchachos. 🤨😁
“I don’t particularly care about the Confederate flag.”
I think it’s interesting that we see more “Confederate” flags when we visit our family farm in western NYS than we ever have seen in TN. It has nothing to do with slavery, the Confederacy, etc., there. The first time I took my husband to visit family, as we drove south from the Buffalo Airport there were these flags flying from the back of pickup trucks. He was gobsmacked.
It’s a symbol of individualism and independence in places not in the South. A basic FU to TPTB.
I think it’s some holding company.
“Our company stands on values of human dignity, opportunity, and freedom,”
Well aren’t you special!
“It’s a symbol of individualism and independence..”
Exactly!
“Because the Confederate flag played absolutely no role in North Carolina history? Now I grant that North Carolina’s role in the CSA and its consequences pales in comparison to the role played by the Mt Olive Pickle Company.”
LOL, but you forgot the sarc tag.
You ALWAYS need a /s
Home canning/ fermenting your own pickled peppers and cukes is a very easy thing to do.
I can my owm homegrown tomatoes, pickles, peppers and sauerkraut.
Haven’t bought a jar of any of them in over 25 years.
I seasonally buy berries and make jelly and jams.
This year I will process my own tomato paste it’s a little more time consuming.
Give it a try.
Even a caveman could ferment a pickle.
Dang!
U R correct...🙄
That’ll show ‘em!
I've never bought them. There are no good dill pickles today. When Heinz stopped making their Genuine Whole Dill Pickles, no company has come up with anything that matches them. I dislike sweet pickles, and Kosher or garlic infused pickles. Heinz pickles were really sour. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. My local grocery store offers their own brand dill hamburger slices, which are fairly decent, and I use them on burgers and hot dogs. Heinz still makes their dill relish, but it's nothing like their whole dill pickles.
they use cheap/unhealthy ingredients.
Remind me to not buy their product!
