The NBA announced Thursday that the “one free throw rule” will be “used at the summer leagues happening this month in Salt Lake City, Northern California and Las Vegas.”
The rule -- “designed to speed up play” -- means “any foul that would typically result in the awarding of one, two or three free throws will instead result in a single free-throw attempt.”
That attempt “will be worth the same total number of points as the free throws it replaces.” The G League has used this rule since 2019-20.
The rule “doesn’t apply to the entire game.” Standard free-throw rules -- two shots for a two-shot foul, etc. -- will be “utilized for the last two minutes of fourth quarters and in all of overtime.”

Yeah, that would get it back to the original concept, but I doubt many NBA fans would go for it. One reason I don't like the NBA is that I think the players are too big for the courts.
Raising to 12 feet might work.
In fact, I propose an old-school basketball league, where the basket is raised to 12 feet, no 3-point shots, and no shot clock.
And they wear the old school ‘short shorts’.
It was always a worthless experiment. They changed the rules to allow all sorts of travels, don’t want to call fouls (let them play BS). 3 point shots have only increased scoring by five points in 50 years, free throw shooting sucks, basically games like we played in the backyard when I was 13.
I wouldn’t watch an NBA game for pay, gave up the college games after the transfer portal fiasco.
On the positive side, shooting only one free throw will make it easier to throw a game for Fan Duel.
