SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The U.S. World Cup team had the lead but no longer had control. The first-half goal scorer, Folarin Balogun, was in the locker room after receiving a red card, leaving Mauricio Pochettino’s gang down a man for at least 26 minutes.
A trip to the Round of 16, seemingly within reach moments earlier, was suddenly in jeopardy against Bosnia and Herzegovina at jam-packed Levi’s Stadium.
Then in the 82nd minute, when defending and determination were paramount, Malik Tillman put the outcome to rest with a free kick as pretty as the Bay Area weather.
The midfielder lifted the ball over the wall and into the left side of the net, punctuating a 2-0 victory and setting a date with Belgium on Monday in Seattle.

Admittedly, I am no authority on Soccer, but it appeared to me thst the US was getting the shaft by the refs....

He missed several calls, but finally pulled out the yellow for BIH near the end. I think the straight red was the wrong call, and I wonder if it can be appealed.

We not only advanced, we look great, dominating possession, even a man down, we were still in control. Could have easily scored two more goals.
I must say though, Mexico has looked great, as well. I think France is the only team they can’t beat.

Oh believe me, I’m the same way, I thought we were doomed when Balogun got his red card.
I’m sure they will appeal the suspension, but I don’t think it’s going to work. And we’ll really need him against Belgium, you saw the drop-off on this team against Turkey without the starters.

Admittedly, I am no authority on Soccer, but it appeared to me that the US was getting the shaft by the refs.... Same here. I know very little about soccer rules, but it felt like USMNT were being ripped off. And I guess Balogun won’t be playing in the next round?
