Citizen Vigilante Should Terrify Western Governments
American Thinker ^ | 28 Jun, 2026 | J.B. Shurk

Film critics hate it, but it is resonating with the general public.

Director Uwe Boll just released a movie that is ticking off all the right people. Called Citizen Vigilante, it is an unapologetic rejection of globalism, mass migration, Islamic conquest, and “woke” leftism. The movie bashes politicians, judges, NGOs, and law enforcement agencies that have bent over backwards to excuse inexcusable crimes committed by non-Western immigrants. It unequivocally demands a return to law and order. It urges viewers to seek justice. It threatens the continuing survival of any Western government that continues to allow outsiders to prey on its nation’s citizens. Boll’s movie is nothing less than a call for Westerners to revolt against the authorities who have refused to keep them safe.

The opening title cards warn Western governments: “All behavior can be traced back to instincts. When justice is denied, instincts turn to vengeance.” Think: the British government’s decades-long cover-up of Muslim rape gangs...or the French and Canadian governments’ cover-up of church arson and attacks on Christians...or the German government’s efforts to censor news stories of Muslim immigrants raping children at public pools and shoving young women onto train tracks. Boll isn’t messing around. He’s telling Western governments in the clearest terms: Your deliberate choice to sacrifice your citizens to raping, murdering outsiders is about to unleash the primal instincts of millions of Americans and Europeans who refuse to remain victims. In other words, vengeance is coming.

Just in case his message was not sufficiently clear, Boll leaves the audience with these words before the end credits: “This film is dedicated to the thousands of rape and murder victims in Europe who were betrayed by our legal system.” Without antiseptic apology, moral dithering, misplaced empathy, or two-faced whataboutism, Boll indicts Western “elites” for their many crimes

“”But most folks don’t have the skills of a sniper or what this movie character had. Still, if people get mad enough...””

Right. Most folks have never even slapped another person, much less shot them. And unless some tragedy strikes them personally, the ‘revenge’ factor is just something they read about or see in the movies. They don’t ever have to feel it, thankfully.

But... and there’s always a but.... many of us, if not most of us, are already pissed as hell at what the “elites” have already done to our nation and gotten away with. All it’s going to take is that one ‘bridge too far’ to set it/us off, I suspect. You’d be surprised what law-abiding citizens can be pushed into becoming.... under the right (or rather, wrong) circumstances.

The vigilante was a murderous psychopath with a heightened sense of justice.
He runs an innocent person or family off the road to a fiery crash just to prove a point to a guy he was about to kill anyway. Then sets an unnecessary ambush for cops and kills a dozen or two.

Maybe the point was that it is going to take this type of individual to solve our problems.

This certainly sounds like a Charles Bronson and "Death Wish" redux.

I wondered how the protagonist in this (I assume that is "Citizen Vigilante") would be portrayed, and the author of this piece (JB Shurk, whose work on American Thinker I almost always like and agree with) characterizes him (I assume it is a "he") as a "psychopath" which is probably fair.

Thing is, when I say "probably fair" to characterize a vigilante as a "psychopath" it does has a negative connotation to it, and it made me think:

"If my wife was brutally raped, then hacked slowly to death with a machete by a person who was in this country illegally, and encouraged to be here by the authorities who knew he was here-would I or others consider myself a "psychopath" if I exacted revenge on the perpetrator if fueled by the knowledge that the government that was supposed to protect my wife not only helped him enter the country, but used my hard-earned tax money to feed clothe, house and provide medical care to him, dropped charges against him, and had even insulated him from legal punishment?"

This is indeed a moral issue and one that eats at the very fiber of what it means to be an American. (I specify "American", because our Constitution has provisions in it as a foundational way to declare our sovereignty that other countries may not have-the legal definition of a citizen, how we enforce that with Constitutionally approved laws and legislation, and who is responsible for enforcing that law.)

What infuriates people like "us" (who the movie will likely appeal to) is the fact that we have Constitutionally valid legislation on the books that was put there to prevent illegal immigration, our own government (who is Constitutionally tasked with protecting us from the scourge of illegal immigration) is not just ignoring it-they have been spending our money we paid in taxes to encourage and facilitate it, engaging our court systems in legal challenges against those who resist it, and even using government agencies and resources to harass and even prosecute those same people who resist it.

But what is more galling to us is that on top of those governmentally approved corruptions, we are paying for this abomination of illegal immigration with our own taxes in the form of shelter, food, clothing, transportation, healthcare, and legal defenses for people who commit all manner of crime, from the obvious atrocities of rape and murder to stealing billions in money from entitlement programs (which we are borrowing money from our grandchildren and hocking their future to pay for) down to the overall degradation of our cities and towns as they bring their filth and corruption from the stinking hell-holes they come from and exact those same tolls on our communities with the apologists declaring "Oh, those crimes are a way of life in their country" as a defense of their actions.

I will see this movie, but...the sentiment that is the foundation will not shock me.

It will make me wonder how we can be, even today, so fundamentally good, moral, and naively generous with money we don't have as to not have gone down this road of vigilantism already. I sometimes wonder that, if not for the interventions at a governmental level by someone like President Trump, would we be seeing this phenomenon already?

A miilion Kyle Rittenhouses are getting itchy trigger fingers after being LOUDLY and persistently PROMISED JUSTICE by Trump, then betrayed.

I sure hope none of them are stopped at any of the ANTIFA checkpoints Trump LEFT INTACT when he surrendered Minneapolis to Team Hillary/Soros.

Maybe patriots will accept a golden carnival, a French Arch, and a glamorous ballroom so "royalty" like prince Andrew and the "king" of the redcoats aren't uncomfortable...instead of JUSTICE.

Surely the descendants of the men who fought the revolution and won the world wars are sophisticated enough to understand the need for decorum and process.

The prostitution segment. Seems gratuitous to me as well, but find it as a standard fare in most foreign films. Upon reflection, tho, one thought did occur: Namely that all the women I saw were women of color, which could be taken to mean Sanders (ironic if meant to mean the vigilante is given Bernie’s name) doesn’t hate immigrants for the color of their skin but only for crime that some commit.

No need to attack, BTW, I just responded to your question without defending the scene. I still think it was gratuitous.

“”This is indeed a moral issue and one that eats at the very fiber of what it means to be an American.””

Yes, a moral issue... and as a Christian, I struggle with the feelings I get when I see what some demons do to children, sometimes even to their own children.

What I know for sure is... if anyone had ever done anything ‘like that’ to a child of mine, I have no doubt what I would do, if humanly possible. Would I go to hell for it? Probably, but who knows.... really. God says “Vengeance is mine”... but would He really damn someone to hell for acting out due to an emotional tragedy? I’d have been willing to take that chance.

As for wondering... if not for Trump... would we already be ‘there’? Maybe. I don’t know the answer to that. What I do know is...

it’s coming.

The Democrat Party, our enemy within, will all but ensure that it will happen (it will have to, once they go full-on tyranny). It’s a matter of when, not if. Only, it won’t be called vigilantism. We already know what it will be called, don’t we.

I certainly agree with your comments. The one scene that I keep thinking about is where the protagonist sets up a death trap, lures a swat team in, & slaughters the police that came to catch him. My own anger about the things going on today has certainly been partly about our police who, instead of upholding the constitution & the law, have followed political ‘rules of engagement’ which means they stood by while Antifa & other thugs attacked people & burned down our cities, & then arrested citizens who protested these things.

As I said on another thread about this movie, being conservative, support for law enforcement has pretty much been ingrained in me. Not any more. And the police should be worried about such a change in attitude among the citizenry.

Ambush for cops. Absolutely a necessity to continue making the point in the film. Gritty and troubling as it was, it fully demonstrates the point that (especially in Britain and Germany) police go after the citizens more than criminals. For offenses as trivial as pointing out the truth on social media, which the vigilante was doing.

Of course he was a killer, and that justified an arrest, but the point about police targeting citizens is made with all the subtlety of circumcision with a hatchet. I think you can only watch and understand this “film” by setting aside your movie logic and embracing the thing as a message vehicle. Hammered again and again with blunt objects like the (poorly) pixelated public videos and the long speeches leveled at the targets of the vigilante.

Lotta folks are comparing this film to the Bronson vigilante movies. I think an even better match is Atas Shrugged.

“it’s coming.”
__________

The film, Vigilante, makes its appeal to the vigilante within. Each of us has our vigilante in the closet. Even the righteous progressives who key Teslas (of other progressives, probably) and who vandalize monuments of America, including the line of the pool on the Mall in D.C.
