This is a short excerpt on Free Republic's entry in Grokipedia. It far outclasses Wikipedia's perverted, overly long entry. Read the whole entry at the link. I did. And I approve.
"Free Republic is a moderated online forum and discussion platform founded in 1996 by Jim Robinson, a private citizen and computer programmer from Fresno, California, serving as a gathering place for self-identified conservatives to post links to news articles and participate in commentary ..."

Far outclasses the despicable Wikipedia entry for FR.
So, who wrote this?
A very accurate depiction.
Thanks for posting.
It missed the degree of FR’s influence during the 2000 Florida ballot counting debacle.
Yes. I recall that. I recall, thinking at the time, this changes everything.
I wrote that FR was important in preventing Gore from stealing the 2000 election.
“Self identified conservatives”...... How about folks possessing critical thinking ability? Well, in most cases.
😊👍🇺🇸
Not just here, but on the ground. Kristinn was leading the group chanting, “Get out of Cheney’s house” in front of the Naval Observatory. The group trying to get into the counting room yelling, “Let us in, let us in...” included FReepers. Hell, I was sorting through spreadsheets of returns pointing out likely fraud in specific precincts (one showing 267% turnout for Gore) and emailing it directly to Jeb Bush in order to concentrate our resources. Got a thank you note from Jeb for that one.
It was quite a time in this site’s history.
“Self identified conservatives”...
https://kirkcenter.org/conservatism/ten-conservative-principles/
Being neither a religion nor an ideology, the body of opinion termed conservatism possesses no Holy Writ and no Das Kapital to provide dogmata. So far as it is possible to determine what conservatives believe, the first principles of the conservative persuasion are derived from what leading conservative writers and public men have professed during the past two centuries. After some introductory remarks on this general theme, I will proceed to list ten such conservative principles.
Perhaps it would be well, most of the time, to use this word “conservative” as an adjective chiefly. For there exists no Model Conservative, and conservatism is the negation of ideology: it is a state of mind, a type of character, a way of looking at the civil social order.
The attitude we call conservatism is sustained by a body of sentiments, rather than by a system of ideological dogmata. It is almost true that a conservative may be defined as a person who thinks himself such. The conservative movement or body of opinion can accommodate a considerable diversity of views on a good many subjects, there being no Test Act or Thirty-Nine Articles of the conservative creed.
In essence, the conservative person is simply one who finds the permanent things more pleasing than Chaos and Old Night. (Yet conservatives know, with Burke, that healthy “change is the means of our preservation.”) A people’s historic continuity of experience, says the conservative, offers a guide to policy far better than the abstract designs of coffee-house philosophers. But of course there is more to the conservative persuasion than this general attitude.
Folks,
Print out the ten conservative principles, read it often and give to others. Conservatism is more a philosophy.
Thanks for posting that link!
“Wikipedia”?? Wut, just browsing that cesspit is like listening religiously to CNN. Or, worse yet, Reddit.
If you don’t have yer head up yer arse and then spend more than 5 seconds (by error) on any trashheap like them — that counts as flagellation. Quit.
Also nothing about the DC Chapter's two decades of on-the-ground counterprotesting in the Capital, especially raising awareness of the Clinton administration's multiple scandals, protecting the wounded at Walter Reed from anti-war protests at its gates, strong bannering and presence at massive left-funded anti-war demonstrations (Afghanistan/Iraq), countering of specific leftist agitators such as Code Pink and Cindy Sheehan both in DC and other states, and protesting leftist media bias at the yearly White House Correspondents Dinner and elsewhere.
