July 1: California's Glock ban goes into effect

n July 1, 2026, a new anti-liberty/gun law goes into effect in California. Its primary feature is a ban on all new Glock handguns and a variety of other similar, striker-fired handguns. Why would California ban the most popular handgun in America? Because of “Glock Switches.”

Graphic: Glock switch. ATF. Public Domain.

These are small, aftermarket accessories, apparently mostly made in China and illegally smuggled into the country. The Chinese don't have America's best interests at heart, but neither does California. They replace the small panel at the rear of some Glock slides—they don’t fit every Glock model—that allows fully automatic fire. Glock does make an automatic pistol, the G18, which is a G17 with a selector switch, but that’s available only to the military and law enforcement.

Glock has redesigned much of its product line at great cost to thwart Glock Switches, but California and other states have rewarded Glock’s civic-mindedness and adherence to the law by banning its products. They haven’t done anything to better catch, prosecute, and jail violent criminals who misuse legal guns. Instead, they’re attacking the guns and depriving honest citizens of their use.

Glock Switches, and any part that might allow a gun to fire automatically, are already illegal. Merely possessing them is a federal felony, as is importing them. Installing them on a Glock creates a machine gun, which is another federal felony. Shooting them, or anyone, invokes state felonies and probably federal terrorism laws. Injuring or killing someone invokes homicide statutes. In other words, the mere possession of such things is already very illegal, using them is more so, and killing someone might invoke the death penalty, but probably not in places like California, where they take an enlightened approach to such things. Rather than punishing criminals

Full auto handguns are notoriously difficult to shoot well.

Yeah, I would expect a lot more collateral damage.

“They just ignored the fact that Glock modified the design of all their guns so that a “Glock Switch” would not work. It seems that was never really the point.”

I believe it was within weeks (if even that) of the new “V” series Glocks hitting shelves, a switch to convert into a machine pistol was created. Glock capitulated for nothing. You’re also right, going after Glock for the switches was never the point.

indeed!
UK has been SOLD OUT by its Ruling Elite

(if UK seizes any more Russian ships, Russia just might start moving firearms into UK for the British subjects...? It or something like it is only one step away ... right or wrong...like it or not... the way things are going...)

Let me count the ways we’re so glad to have left CA 16 years ago.

I actually don’t have time to count all of them, but there are many.

I wonder, if a thug held one sidewise and fired into a crowd, the the insane muzzle lift wouldn’t be an issue.

I like my 17.

Another essential core is a citizenry that ALLOWS themselves to be disarmed. I don’t think that would happen here without a lot of dead enforcers, although I was sorely disappointed that none of them were killed enforcing Covid mandates.

“....Why would California ban the most popular handgun in America?...”

Because California elected officials do not trust armed and law-abiding citizens. They fear an armed mass of citizens, even if they strictly obey laws, because the elected officials project their own total disregard for the laws and justice onto the masses.

If you are truly corrupt, you assume everyone else is corrupt and plan accordingly.

It is becoming that half of my firearms purchased over the years are now illegal.

They're not grandfathered?

i wouldn’t want to see violence but yes it is clear that Americans would not tolerate any atempted disarming

when the rulers come after your firepower, they only prove for certain why you needed it in the first place

I for one would LOVE to see the wholesale slaughter of those who try to disarm us. And those who enforce the edicts.

Fully automatic pistols (often called machine pistols) were first invented during World War I. The Steyr Repetierpistole M1912/P16, developed by Austria-Hungary in 1916, is widely recognized as the world’s first true production fully automatic pistol.

They never became popular both because of their aiming problem, and because they consumed ammo like a hungry dachshund. That is, they needed constant reloading.
