As if the Southern Poverty Law Center wasn’t already looking like a menace instead of a respected civil-rights outfit, now comes evidence that one of its top execs was sending donor cash to the white supremacist she was shacked up with.
To be fair, it’s long been obvious that the SPLC is a racket exploiting liberals (especially in the media) desperate for right-wing threats to condemn; the nonprofit raked in billions over the decades to support its (shoddy) research, including a “hate map” and database on supposed hate groups.
Now it stands charged with funneling funds to members of the Ku Klux Klan, neo-Nazis and other outfits it was raising cash to fight.
Its officers insist the payments were to “informants,” but the feds now say the “Director of the SPLC’s Intelligence Project” was “in a romantic relationship” with a member of the National Alliance — a white supremacist outfit — to whom she helped funnel $1.2 million in donor money.
Ick.
They allegedly even had a joint bank account to cover living expenses, so she profited from the payouts.
Per the SPLC’s own defense of its “informant” payoffs, the racist Romeo would raise money, induct new recruits and conduct “extremist activities” for the National Alliance, while copying documents to feed to his honeybunch handler, who then published SPLC reports on the inner workings of the hate group.
When the Alliance went on a leak hunt, the SPLC paid another informant to take the heat: How many of the haters weren’t on its payroll?

On Tuesday, the New York Post reported on a DOJ filing details how an individual identified only as “Employee-2” and described as someone “who would become Director of the SPLC’s Intelligence Project” maintained a “romantic relationship” with an informant identified as F-9 who was embedded in the neo-Nazi group National Alliance.
Employee-2 and F-9 “shared a house and two bank accounts,” according to the government, and the former funneled a total of $1.2 million to the latter, including an estimated $140,000 from SPLC’s operating account to joint bank accounts the two shared. “This amounted to approximately 66% of all money ever deposited into their joint bank accounts,” the indictment says. Employee-2 “then used donors’ money to pay the couple’s personal living expenses.” At the same time, F-9 allegedly raised money for National Alliance to “carry out its extremist activities.”
The Post concluded that Employee-2 is none other than Heidi Beirich, an SPLC “fascism expert” who held the position the indictment describes from 2012 to 2019. It notes that Beirich is the author of a 2015 article on the National Alliance that matches the indictment’s allegation that Employee-2 wrote such an article based on material stolen from the group’s headquarters the year before. A different informant was allegedly paid off to take the blame for the theft.

Google turns up two women that have held that post at the SPLC, and a third shown as interim. Also one man in the post. Looks like a high turnover job. A couple of media outlets have focused on one of the women.
Which raises the question:

Lots of drama here but under it systematic ‘educational’ effort by the SPLC for decades.
I witnessed their propaganda in all schools I worked in as custodian for 22 years in three different school districts.
