Throughout the history of the world... mankind has fallen in love with pagans and heathens and even anti-Christians. Hell, there’s even an unproven rumor that Noah had a pagan DIL on the Ark. So let’s not go crazy with paranoia when there’s no real reason to, mkay?

My grandfather and his brother split over the German question.
Sons of a German mother, widowed young, one was an American war hero in France 1918, the other sided with his mother.
WW I had a devastating effect on German American communities and families. My reply about “Europe” was simply to point out that Europe includes Germany, which was far from an American ally, really up until 1989 if you include the DDR.
They were an ally when I was earning my German jump wings among German soldiers and from Luftwaffe aircraft when we all thought of each other as allies, and that was before 1989, I don’t know what you mean about us and the other European NATO allies as not being allies.
If you go to war with the intent of an armistice, you wasted your soldiers’ lives.

Unless your goal is the complete annihilation of a foreign nation, political faction, or alliance, the end will always be some kind of armistice. The Nazi leadership went to war in 1939 (and beyond) with absolutely no plans for armistice...that didn’t end so well for them.
