Dallas to host 2026 Republican midterm convention: report
Fox 4 Dallas ^ | 06/15/2026 | Carter Freeman

Posted on 06/16/2026 5:23:04 AM PDT by DFG

DALLAS - Texas Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton said that Dallas will host his party's midterm convention later this year.

What we know:

Paxton said Dallas will host the GOP midterm in September during a tele-town hall on Tuesday.

Paxton said he anticipates Trump coming to the midterm to help him campaign in his Senate race with Democrat James Talarico.

What we don't know:

We don't know the dates that the midterm convention would be, or what venue would host it.

The backstory:

Sources confirmed in March that the Republican Party is exploring a national convention for the midterm elections, with Dallas being one of the cities under consideration to host the event.

Dave Brown, the general manager of the American Airlines Center, told FOX 4 representatives of the National Republican Party toured the AAC in late February, but they didn't share any details about the possible event.

The reps were given all the rental information, including technical aspects and rental fee details, which, on average, is about $125,000 per day.

"Typically, parties don't have national conventions during the midterm cycle, but it signals, I think, a desire on the Republicans' part to rally the troops," said Matthew Wilson, a political science professor at SMU.

"I think there are a lot of good electoral and coalition-building reasons why Republicans would focus on Texas, in particular as a site for trying to build some momentum to gin up greater Republican turnout in this fall's electoral cycle."

Dallas was reportedly the only city in Texas being considered, with Las Vegas also in contention to host the midterm.

Brought this up yesterday. 6 responses. I concluded there was no interest in the subject. The party may be taking a gamble. I guess we’ll see.

A gamble in what way? You think this could decrease enthusiasm for Republican voters and/or increase enthusiasm for Democrat voters?

Not a chance. Can you explain in what way you think this is a gamble?

Agreed. The left’s base will go out to vote for their goofball candidates. This convention could be a way to stimulate the conservatives that only vote in the Presidential elections...especially if President Trump is involved in it.

It’s called going to the well once too often. It’s been 45 minutes and only 5 responses to this post, meaning freepers are not too excited either. 30 years ago it was the Contract that drove us to the mid-terms along with our response to Hillarycare. I think building on a positive is more difficult. This could be a defensive measure as all the crazies are coming out. Perhaps another Contract will focus the public more but that could be going to the well too soon.

Great if it works and I’ll happily stand corrected.

This is a great idea if its used the right way. If it looks like a presidential convention with the typical speeches and events, its probably not going to work. The media won’t give it the publicity to allow it to work. Or if Trump consumes all the oxygen in the room, that won’t work either. But if its more of a “working” convention to organize and get out the vote and get the faithful pumped up, this really could be a good idea.

I love the song, God Bless the USA. However, the GOP has to reach beyond the Boomer and Gen X base to reach disaffected young white men. Sadly, Charlie Kirk is no longer with us, but there is a strong need to channel the disaffected away from dead end tracks such as those advocated by Nick Fuentes or Candace Owens.

Efforts between now and Nov need to consider a few things:

Do we play offense or defense? Do we turn NV from purple to Red? 2 new quarterbacks for the LV Raiders are the back drop for NV.

Do we play offense in GA to take a seat away from Dem Ossoff?

Or do we play defense to defend a seat in Tx because we are so weak in TX and we have to strategize out of desperation?

There are other strategic and tactical considerations.
We always need money. Do we need to go to TX (or FL) because that is where the money is? Or can we go to NV or GA and still get the money? How territorial is the money?

Trump is popular with men of all races. This is no longer 2016. The Democratic Party is for feminists and eunuchs.

As a result, Trump was able to get more votes from minorities in 2024 and that's because he was able to reach out to male voters.

However, this means that we are vulnerable during offyear/midterms because our voters are not going to show up when Trump's not on the ballot.

I guess I get where you’re coming from, but I really don’t see how this could drive voter enthusiasm down. If you’re not interested in the Convention you just won’t watch, right?

I’d be happy to open the wallet and attend-not just watch. Gotta be hot that time of year. I remember Ross Perot having his big get together one August in the 1990’s. Got the hotels to charge $59 a night for their rooms. All the butt kissers showed up. Kasich was one of them. If the public is invited to attend I imagine it will cater mostly to the fat cats, something the MSM will bite on. The lefties will be out enforce, waiting. The Dallas mayor is now republican right? A really big showing could demoralize them.
