For Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, the war he had hoped would secure his legacy — Israel and the United States together attacking Iran — may be ending in a way that could sully it.
The framework agreement to end the war in Iran, which was announced on Sunday, omits some of the most important things Israel wanted.
The full text of the deal has not yet been released and Israel was not directly involved in the negotiations. Initial details suggest that the agreement does nothing to curb Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal, or its funding of regional proxies like Hezbollah in Lebanon or the Houthis in Yemen, who have attacked Israel with their own arsenals. It could help Iran bolster those proxies by easing sanctions, which would allow billions of dollars to flow into its bank accounts.
The deal’s terms when it comes to constraining Iran’s nuclear program....remain undisclosed or still to be negotiated during the agreed 60-day cease-fire to allow for further talks. Questions remain over what will become of Iran’s stock of near-bomb-grade uranium and whether the country will be able to keep enriching nuclear fuel.
Worse still for Mr. Netanyahu, who faces re-election in a few months and is behind in the polls, President Trump, the Israeli leader’s most valuable political asset, has publicly rebuked him multiple times in recent weeks.
While Mr. Trump has praised Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, as pragmatic, he has called Mr. Netanyahu “crazy,” ungrateful and lacking in judgment.
On Sunday, Mr. Trump added “difficult” to that litany of insults, after Israel’s military.... struck what it described as a Hezbollah target on the outskirts of Beirut, the Lebanese capital, in retaliation for a Hezbollah attack that wounded two Israeli soldiers.

NYT- alway ready with an open switchblade for Israel. i can write these things myself after so many years.
The same story is all over Israeli press too. Especially the right wing, Likud press.
Let me get this straight, they are trashing a deal that NO ONE has seen yet and claiming that Israel doesnt get what they want..yet they can make that claim WITHOUT EVEN SEEING THE DEAL..gee, I dont remember this kind of criticism when Obama signed that piece of crap “Deal” allowing Iran to keep their centrifuges and continue to make uranium on OUR DIME..but the Slimes was fine with that since it was their messiah Obama who did it, cant say anything negative about Saint Barry
every other PM has a legacy of doing nothing.
Netanyahu should be appreciated for doing something even if only a few minor things were achieved. There are no guarantees that you get all you want. Just killing a few of the leaders who planned attacks on Israel via proxies is a success in my view.
Yaa, total garbage, basically the LSM and liberals want to create yet another false narrative and some posters here are gleefully eager to promote it
“I dont remember this kind of criticism when Obama signed that piece of crap ‘Deal’....”
Then you were on a desert island.
Obama shipped the mullahs $1.7 billion.
The upcoming deal would pay them a multiple of that, above and beyond any reconstruction fund.
This is BS
Netanyahu has steered Israel through some very troubled waters and has come through with such stunning results for Israel that if you had tried to predict the success of the year and a half people and where we are at now, people would have called you crazy
Netanyahu has played the part of foil and bad cop for the final stage negotiations with Iran but Israel has been a much more active player in shaping the future of the region than is being made public because of the public animosity towards Israel in the Middle East
Middle Eastern politics are treacherous but nothing compared to that of the Israeli Left
“...a few minor things were achieved....”
Unfortunately for Netanyahu, you’ll have no vote in the upcoming election.
Overall, Iran comes out of this war stronger. And remember: Netanyahu cast this as an existential struggle. Accomplishing “a few minor things” is a net negative given the staggering expenditure of Israel’s military, financial, and political resources in the endeavor.
Netanyahu’s own hard-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich: “The agreement with Iran is bad for Israel and for the entire free world.”
Israel’s Defence and Security Forum, a right-wing think tank: “Every agreement with the Iranian terrorist regime is ultimately doomed to fail, and the current agreement will be no different”.
Gadi Eisenkot, former Army chief: “A grim result of a failed government.”
If you think it’s just the Israeli Left that questions this outcome, you need to read some more.
Having lived in Israel, I saw that most of Israel press is just reprints of the NYT, WP and LA Times.
Yep, but don’t worry you won’t penetrate some of the FR bubbles here, they are near infinitely thick.
When did you live in Israel?
The highest-circulation paper is Israel Hayom, founded in 2016 by Sheldon Adelson and decidedly right-wing. It regularly takes shots at the New York Times.
A recent headline was: “Trump cannot sugarcoat a bad deal with Iran.”
Ye ole “you can’t win” line of reporting.
Keep the war going- you are a warmonger and are losing.
Get a deal that ends it- you can’t end it now. You have to keep pounding them. War war war!!!
THESE guys aren’t Jewish enough for you?
“National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich rail against the pending ceasefire deal between Washington and Tehran, insisting that Israel be allowed to continue fighting on multiple fronts.
“ ‘The State of Israel must not accept the ceasefire between the United States and Iran,’ Ben Gvir tells reporters ahead of his ultranationalist Otzma Yehudit party’s weekly faction meeting in the Knesset, insisting that ‘the security of the citizens of Israel and IDF soldiers stands above all other considerations’ and that Israel is ‘not bound by agreements that put an end to its ability to defend itself.’ “
Ben-Gvir’s background was in the extremist Kahanist element of religious Zionism. He makes Netanyahu look like a hippie flower girl.
Iran out-maneuvered the Pentagon by going "horizontal" - widening the battlefield to include all Gulf states, to disperse our assets weaken our response. Hegseth and his advisers simply did not see this coming. They literally seemed to believe that it would just be a replay of August 2025, with a larger scale. But from the nation that invented chess, it was a smart gambit. Vietnam carried out a similar strategy, on a much smaller scale.
Israel is obviously going to have to finish what Trump started when it becomes obvious that DJT was taken for a ride...
That degenerate gangster needs rebuking...regime change for Israel incoming!
