Terrified students are fleeing Belfast after homes were named on a rioters' 'hit list' in the wake of an alleged knife attack by a Sudanese migrant that sparked days of unrest across the city.
Young people have been packing their bags and abandoning rented accommodation amid fears properties could be targeted in a wave of violence that has seen homes, businesses and vehicles set on fire.
Some streets in south Belfast's student district have been left almost deserted as undergraduates head home, while others have sought refuge with friends after addresses circulated online.
The exodus follows several nights of disorder triggered by the stabbing of Stephen Ogilvie, 44, who remains in a coma after suffering devastating injuries.
Sudanese asylum seeker Hadi Alodid, 30, has been charged with attempted murder over the attack.
As tensions escalated, a list containing addresses believed to be linked to migrants was shared online, leaving many residents fearing they could become targets.
A 21-year-old medical student was loading up her car to leave Belfast after learning a property two doors from her home had appeared on the list.
'It is to scare people, it's scaremongering, but it's better to be safe than sorry,' she told the Telegraph.
She added that the address was actually occupied by fellow students.
Others who remained in the city said fear was spreading rapidly among residents.
Standing near the scene of an arson attack in north Belfast, a man in his twenties said many students had already left.
'Loads of them have been going home after the "hit list" was sent around,' he said. 'The scariest thing is you don't know who it would be, who did it or who is going to be next. It's terror.'

Only burn down the social science programs. (Why? Because social science isn’t a science but for the vast majority a bunch of cleverly packaged personal prejudices!). Any program that involves “ethnic or sexual orientation” studies burn that done. Another set of “false academia” that dresses personal prejudices up. Almost all higher education art programs fall into this category too. All of these programs exist solely to increase the number of ethnics and women in the faculty lounges.
However the first thing that must be done is cut the number of administrative positions by 50% to 70. For state schools the state legislature must demand the resignations of school presidents and governing boards that allowed the administrative bloat to happen.
State schools who have land grant institution ad their founding principle must go back to that! State legislatures must force that!
None of this will happen because state schools have evolved to where they are a sports entertainment complex that does education on the side. As long as state educators get good tickets there will be no change.

Very true. It will end up causing sympathy for the migrants legal or illegal. Government policy and the officials in charge of it caused the crisis. They should be the ones driven out at the polling place.
I am not sure if suits have been filed over U.K. citizens being passed over to provide housing for migrants but if not there should be.

What the hell has happened to this site. J.A. was referring to an actual statement in the article that the people leaving are students legally in Belfast on student visas. How does that make him a troll.
Is it now F.R. policy that opposing acts of violence that target people who have not committed crimes or harmed other makes you a troll? Protesting is one thing. Even targeting structures is understandable. But to target occupied buildings with means that could lead to injury or even death is unacceptable.
The government is responsible and they should be targeted. Student visas should be reviewed and revoked at the government’s discretion. Housing should be for native U.K. residents first and foremost. Immigration control should plug the leaks and start mass deportations.
That can be done without threatening to burn people out of their lodgings.
