Freeing the slaves was correct. the crisis arrived with LBJ’s War on Poverty. That changed out the fortunes of a population that had 20+ years earlier entered the stage of being immigrants like the Irish and Italians. The War had opened up good jobs in the North and southern blacks flowed north to take those jobs. They developed skills and were integrating into the main culture . that continued until the Democrats made monthly money available to women who had children but no man in the house. Many married men left their homes or to enable that money to come in. The black family disintegrated, a process that continues still. Boys grew up without fathers and soaked u the victim mentality pushed by the government. They were told continuously that they could not advance because of the White Man. And it goes on and on. Instead of aspiring to factory work they saw easy money in drugs.
