This was the number one song on my sister's 8th birthday . I sent her the link today . Thought I'd share here .
Kyu died in the JAL crash in August 1985 ( I moved to Japan the following month ) . The crash is the deadliest single aircraft accident in aviation history . 520 died .
Kyu means 9 in Japanese . He was the youngest of 9 kids in his family . hence Kyu was his nickname .
Leave it to record execs to re-name the song Sukiyaki . It has nothing to do with food hehe !

I. remember both songs quite well. In fact I can recall a couple lines from hundreds of songs from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. My memory slows in the 80’s and then pop goes dead to me in the 90’s.
These days I tell people to be very careful about the music they expose themselves to when they are young because it will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
I started singing in a church choir in my mid-40s just to get the old songs out of my head. Typically, they were lame, stupid, or evil. they never did me a lick of good—unlike church songs, which brace the soul
I was born 3 November 1952 - that’s why I try to donate on my birthday because Jim Rob and I shared a birthday (month and day, anyway - he was born in ‘45).
He’s known as a “Conservative Legend” if anyone wants to do some research...I think he’s rolling over in his grave with how many woke trolls we have here today.
