“Disclosure Day” may be the most alien film in Steven Spielberg’s catalog.
The really terrific story of UFO info finally being divulged to the world went over as a dud last night at the box office.
The film made just $6.5 million in previews.
Tonight, if the film makes $10 million, and then does the same Saturday and Sunday, it will be a historic flop.
Timing is everything in the movie release world, and this is not a great weekend for a hit. The weather is stormy. (An ironic problem since Emily Blunt plays a metereologist.) The World Cup has begun in soccer. And tomorrow night, the NBA finals with the Knicks and Spurs will draw maybe 25 million viewers.
“Disclosure Day” also has problems at Rotten Tomatoes. Reviews are at 82% from critics, and a low 74% om the audience meter. I’m surprised, because I really liked it. But audiences are demanding more from movies now than ever before. “Disclosure Day,” unlike other Spielberg classics, may not feel urgent.

No mention - either in the movie, itself, or in the press releases / comments by Spielberg - of Muslims losing their faith?!

I looked at IMDB and counted only 8 and I've never re-watched one of them. I think it's because I find his movies childish.
Someone like Hitchock, I've seen 27 of his movies and re-watched them more times then I can count.
Kind of like the actual 'disclosure'.. Which went over as a dud.

I thought the film was very pro-Christian.
I mean, not written BY a Christian, and as such a bit of oversimplification of our beliefs - but not a shred of negativity.
I loved every minute of it.
That’s right! All of those observed objects that weren’t made by any nation on this planet spontaneously manufactured themselves.
I grew up by an airport and witnessed UFO’s on a daily basis... Guess what... They were planes, jets, helicopters and sometimes... They were birds. Just because you can’t identify it... That doesn’t make it ‘alien’... It makes it unidentified.
Others saw what clearly weren’t conventional craft, and they were fully qualified to make the judgement.
Yup... The aliens are all here and they’re just keeping it a secret.
The good thing is this... They can speak English and we can understand whatever language they speak too... There have been tens of millions of species of life on earth over the last 6 or 7 million years that we’ve been here out of the 5 billion years since the earth was formed, and we can’t understand what any of those species were saying and have no idea what language they’re speaking... But a species from lightyears away has arrived and they know our language and we know theirs... Uh-huh.
Totally plausible.
"Film" is dead, droop. Schpielberg going down in flames on his last big budget = Schadenfreude. How are you never on the knowing side of anything?
