Senator John Cornyn was not consoled when President Trump professed on social media that the senior Republican from Texas would “remain my friend for a long time to come” after the president had enthusiastically endorsed the man who defeated Mr. Cornyn, ending his Senate career.
“If that’s the way friends treat you, you wonder about his enemies,” Mr. Cornyn said this week in his first extensive interview since his loss two weeks ago to Attorney General Ken Paxton of Texas, an opponent Mr. Cornyn labeled corrupt and unfit for the Senate.
Mr. Cornyn said he had come to terms with his defeat, a stinging loss he attributed in part to public disillusionment with extreme partisan politics that led to low voter turnout. Now the Trump administration might find itself having to come to terms with Mr. Cornyn as he flexes new political freedom, joining a handful of other Senate Republicans not seeking re-election or defeated in primaries at Mr. Trump’s behest who now have added room to maneuver.
“I think it is going to be a pretty bumpy ride for the next seven months,” Mr. Cornyn said during a wide-ranging conversation in his Capitol office as he reflected on the tumultuous Texas election and his nearly quarter-century in Washington.
“It does give some of us a little more freedom, and certainly leverage,” he said, before invoking Mr. Trump’s notoriously heated Oval Office meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine last year. “As the president told President Zelensky when he was in his office a year or so ago — he said, ‘You don’t have any cards.’ Well, we’ve got some cards to play.”

> RINO Cornyn is threatening not to play nice
So same as always? If you want leverage as a RINO, you have to play both sides. You can’t simply obstruct and undermine every time. He went full retard and lost his leverage.
I truly hope that the right people are elected for the next election, so that a purge in Austin can happen.
As long as Austin has all of the RINOs allowing DEMS to rule, it is killing Texas.
(And Cornhole should be expelled from Texas :-P )
You can’t predict the future. Also, if it would turn out one way after Cornyn’s defeat, it would have been exactly the same if he had won. Actually the chances are better that Trump will not have a miserable last 2 years. Trump has been through more tribulations than any president since Abraham Lincoln and is likely to be remembered as a great historical president.
The Great Cornyholio!
‘Cuz, ya know, if Cornyn had 6 more years he’d make sure Trump’s last two years were a walk in the park.
Good one.
Cornyn, or someone using his X account, last night called Scott Presler a grifter.
That did not go well for Cornyn.
he was an open borders rat ... ALWAYS!
Another Sore Loserman with stompy feet and bad attitude. Good riddance.
Friends are friends and business is business. Trump keeps them separate. He was friendly, if not friends, with people who were suing him. Career politicians like Cornyn are friendly only to get political power so they don’t, or can’t, understand.
And don’t let them float to the next chamber after they are limited out of one.
Isn’t it about what’s best for America? The voters got it right.
Well, Cornyn certainly seems miserable....
Miserable’ FIRST Two Years for Trump ,with you in the Senate.
Keep in mind that this is not a change of behavior. The mask is simply coming off and we are now seeing what Cornyn has been doing behind the scenes for years. But before he lost, he talked conservative but acted Deep State / Beltway behind the scenes. So do whatever the F you want, John. And don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. There’s a gig waiting for you as the “Republican” on MSNBC in your future.
Dropping the mask. Going to be a miserable two years for this loser, being kicked out in disgrace by his own constituents.
The Founders didn’t have term limits for anybody—judges, president, congressmen, anybody. Doesn’t mean it isn’t a good idea, given a couple centuries of experience to draw upon.
The stage is set. All the backdrops are almost made. Props are all about in place.
When the curtain is raised, the unmeasurable misery is going to be front stage all across America. All the Democrat criminals are going to be indicted and tried with untold amounts of first hand evidence delivered up by minions who have been loudly singing since President Trump resumed the Presidency
