“And I just couldn’t get any of that playing as fast as you can and cramming as many notes in one second as you could."

I can see the point. When singers cram multiple notes where one belongs, ruining the tempo but massaging their own egos, it pisses me off (Maria Carrey, Whitney Houston, etc.). But music, like art, is perceived differently by everyone.

Later in life I developed appreciation for the more minimalist guitar approach, like Lindsey Buckingham's brilliant work on "The Chain".

I listened to several of this guy's songs and got the impression of The Ramones...on barbiturates.

Sometimes a simple , minimalistic approach is best . This guy in J&MC admitted he was not a good guitarist . I agree with him that guys like Van Halen are overrated and over-mimicked . Speed isn’t everything . Eddie gets ranked higher by “ experts “ than say Chet Atkins for chrissakes ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EgB__YratE

I like some of the “ shoegaze “ bands such as Cocteau Twins and Spacemen 3 .

For the record here I said this band played like they were on barbiturates, missing the most obvious joke. What I should have wrote was:

The Jesus and Mary Chain sound a lot like Ramones...who really got sedated.

The Ramones themselves were super-minimalists. If the car ran great without extra parts those parts were chucked. ALL the original members died younger than they should: three from cancers, one by heroin overdose. Despite earning but one gold record in thirty years they're cited as being the second-most influential band of all time after the Beatles.

Hey, ho...Let's go!
