A progressive Christian denomination is facing sharp internal backlash over a proposed rule that would require ordained clergy to be in monogamous sexual relationships.
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is set to vote on the monogamy requirement at its General Assembly this summer in Milwaukee.
he PC(USA) has allowed for the ordination of openly gay clergy since 2011 and altered its definition of marriage to “two people” in 2014.
The new proposed rule, known as CON-10, does not mention sexual orientation or same-sex relationships. Instead, it targets multipartner relationships... ...
In its official response, the Advocacy Committee for Women and Gender Justice claimed that requiring pastors to be monogamous attempts to “regulate the private lives and relational structures of individuals in ways that risk harm rather than healing.” The committee further argued that a monogamy mandate could “unintentionally reinforce systems of shame, silence, and spiritual coercion.”
The Advocacy Committee on LGBTQIA+ Equity also argued that the monogamy rule reinforced White privilege.
The group claimed the mandate imposes “a narrow, culturally specific understanding of family” that “privileges a dominant cultural framework over the lived realities of communities of color and global Christians.”
The LGBTQIA+ panel also cited a 2024 academic study to defend multipartner relationships, claiming that polyamorous individuals report relationship satisfaction comparable to monogamous couples.

RE: Presbyterian Church faces revolt after proposing clergy must be in monogamous relationships
There used to be a time when this was IMPLICITLY ACCEPTED as a REQUIREMENT based on Scripture.
That is has to be proposed shows how far the fall of this denomination has gone.
The legacies and endowments that fund these institutions explain why agnostic neo pagans, who have no belief or adherence to Christianity, fight to control these churches.
Does that mean St. Paul wouldn’t qualify?
I so wish the Presbyterian Church USA would stop calling themselves Presbyterians so that biblically sound denominations like Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) wouldn’t get lumped in with them.
I was just telling my daughter “Hey, if it was good enough for King David and Solomon...”
I once asked a pastor about why did God allow the multiple wives thing. His response was along the lines of “Well, he was working on the other sins - mainly trying to rid them of worshiping other gods. Sort of like with us, He works on certain parts of our lives that are a priority. And He didn’t “allow” it or condone it. And if you read carefully, it was never a benefit to have more than one partner, and it always led to problems.”
Hint: If Jesus would have said, “that’s wrong dude,” 2000 years ago, you probably shouldn’t do it today.
This is so incredibly sad and pathetic. All these people will burn.
But as Presbyterian Ministers they are Predestined to Sleep Around.
“I so wish the Presbyterian Church USA would stop calling themselves Presbyterians”
You’ve got that right!
LOL!
Presbyterian is a form of government, not belief.
This is James Talarico’s brand of the Presbyterian church.
They have a heretical version of the Bible called the “Inclusive Bible” written by a excommunicated Catholic priest and the lady who used to chain herself to the front of the convention centers where the Republicans were having conventions.
Some of its highlights include calling God non-binary and Adam a hermaphrodite.

“Progressive Christian” looks like an Oxymoron.
“Presbyterian is a form of government, not belief.”
Yes we are learning that, as Baptists attending a PCA church now. (Imagine: in TENNESSEE we haven’t been able to find a Baptist church we can tolerate.)
The Presbyterian Church has lost its way.
not to mention same-sex relationships
or targeting multipartner relationships... ...
They think they have discovered something new.
I have one word: Congregationalism.
Just a thought. :-)
