Yesterday, a great evil came to an end as former Colorado election official Tina Peters was finally freed from prison. Like so many Americans who have been targeted in the last decade by biased prosecutors, Peters never belonged there in the first place. Peters was railroaded at the insistence of election officials in Colorado who were trying to punish her for her investigation of the compromised 2020 presidential election. Singled out as she was for exemplary punishment, Peters was subjected to abusive conditions and periodic assaults by fellow prisoners. All of this was for following her conscience as county clerk and recorder of Mesa County, Colorado, in acting to prevent and detect election fraud.
Concerned (correctly) that there was evidence of fraud in the 2020 presidential race in her county, she made copies of voting data before it could be destroyed—an act that Colorado authorities convinced a biased judge was criminal. Although her political enemies clearly hoped that she wouldn’t outlive her long, outrageous sentence, it was recently and mercifully commuted by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, thanks in part to pressure brought on them by the Trump administration.
Peters’ full story deserves to be made into a movie about the corruption of justice in our country.

I would say her publicity harmed her efforts. One thing about such things is to keep quiet about it. Don’t let the other side have notice so that they beat you to court.

Not that checking on a system is illegal, because there are means to ensure election device integrity. It is illegal to go and tamper, yourself, with devices. No court takes sides and says it is fine for one side to do something illegal because they are the good guys.
Besides, she broke into secured locations and that was not required to check up on a system.

Well said. She had ample offers for help from me and I know from many others too. She seemed to think of herself as some kid of TV show character where she would be a hero and fame and fortune and a ticker tape parade was in her future.
This type of effort needs teamwork. Selflessness. No one can see all legal issues coming nor fight them all. She was begged to stand down and work with the Trump team. She never did.
She never seemed to learned that most of these types of efforts are thankless and anonymous but well worth sitting back and watching the benefits happen. It’s hard work, unpaid too, but very gratifying.

If you are going to go against the government you had better not give them a reason to find you guilty of crimes in a court of law. Fist lesson of being a rebel is to stay out of jail.
She had no need to do the crimes that she did in her position.
You are an idiot if you think taking something then giving it to a court of law preserves the chain of custody. The information she took instantly became useless because it was no longer under a chain of known custody. How does anyone know that she didn’t tamper with it?

Your use of "workarounds" is doing a lot of work there.
Think about what she did :
Provide some heehaw "contractor" badge access of another person to access a restricted area;
Disconnected security cameras in a restricted area;
Let said "contractor" copy data from system(s) in a restricted area.
And then data that was ostensibly copied finds it way into the Internet.
A case study in how good intentions get obliterated by awful execution.
And I don't really care.
The elections in Colorado were tainted by obvious manipulations of which we have seen only the first preliminary indicators. And this has been going on for some years now.
The "laws" here mean very little and were made to protect the Democrats as they cheat. I am unconcerned with the awful execution of Tina Peter's activities and violations of "laws".
We do not have rule of law. We have pretense of law.
Tina Peters found something important which she was not authorized to discover. The Democrats used the "Legal" system to punish her for what she found. That is a system which cannot be allowed to stand.
