NEW YORK -- Ten-time Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson confirmed Wednesday in a video posted to social media that he's retiring from the NFL to take a job with CBS Sports.
Wilson's announcement came two days after news broke that he was finalizing a deal to become an analyst on CBS' Sunday NFL pregame show.
"As I enter this next chapter with CBS Sports and 'The NFL Today,' I'm so blessed to continue doing what I love most -- being around the greatest game in the world," he said in the video.
Wilson played 14 seasons after being taken by Seattle in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft out of NC State. He spent his first 10 seasons with the Seahawks, leading them to their first Super Bowl championship in the 2013 season. He was traded to Denver after the 2021 season and spent two rocky years with the Broncos before playing one season in Pittsburgh and another for the New York Giants.
Wilson threw for 46,966 yards, with 353 touchdown passes and 114 interceptions.
He joins Peyton Manning and Dan Marino as the only quarterbacks to throw at least 20 touchdown passes in each of their first three seasons and is one of seven signal-callers to be selected to 10 Pro Bowls.
Wilson is the only player in NFL history with at least 30 touchdown passes and fewer than 15 interceptions in four straight seasons. He also had three seasons with at least 30 TD passes and 500 yards rushing, which is the most in NFL history.

CBS?
Must be going to 60 Minutes with the other false inflated egos?
This means something I guess to sports fans but all I could think of is I die, go to Heaven, there’s all these fascinating people from all the worlds civilizations, scientists, generals, Van Gogh, Napoleon, leader of a Neanderthal tribe, Caesar, Shakespeare, Cleopatra, famous chefs, architects, discus throwers, great athletes from the ages and so, I, searching for something to say that sounds intelligent, “Did you see Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson confirmed Wednesday in a video posted to social media that he’s retiring from the NFL to take a job with CBS Sports?”
“...all these fascinating people from all the worlds civilizations, scientists, generals, Van Gogh, Napoleon, leader of a Neanderthal tribe, Caesar, Shakespeare,...”

Russel was great in Seattle, when he had good backup. But like Brady, or Michael Jordan, his success couldn’t be replicated in other teams.
I’ll bet he hears the name “Malcolm Butler” in his worst nightmares. With all the astounding bad luck the Patriots have had in Super Bowls (Giants) and also in that famous matchup with Wilson (with about 2 minutes left to play) they were overdue for a *good* break. Beast Mode just couldn’t get it done! ROTFL!
Thank goodness. He has been painful to watch since leaving Seattle.
This thing is fascinating! I should have included Mark Twain in my Heavenly group! I have been reading it for a while now as it takes a bit to read and have gotten to Chapter II. Will continue a little later but I am honored to have inspired you to remember and blush to be in the same company of this great piece of writing. It’s quite creative and feels even contemporary, making me think of, not comparable, but reminds me a tiny bit of Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. But my goodness, foolish as it sounds, because I have never actually read Twain, he is so good.
For some odd reason all my favorite authors are mid to late 19th Century and early 20 century writers. Dickens, Twain, Rudyard Kipling, Edgar Rice Burroughs, HG Wells, Arthur Conan Doyle, O. Henry. I guess it’s because the world was such a simple place back in those days it was more interesting than the current status of civilization...............
I very much understand and agree with you. Though I’ve never read most of them I have read Dickens and love all the movies and art works based on Edgar Rice Burroughs and really there are writers inspired by them and recognize their worth, today.
He was good when he could still scramble. He is too short and once he was no longer a running threat he was cooked.
Unfortunately, he will be remembered for one pass.
Or he had Tyler Lockett down the field already.
True, but it wasn’t exactly another dynasty. He retired after his first playoff loss. But I blame his witch wife.
The call was controversial but Ricardo Lockette (the intended receiver) was overpowered by the better player... Malcolm Butler. If Lockette had been a little tougher he would've caught that ball and went down in history for the 'perfect catch'... Instead... It's Malcolm Butler who is and always will be remembered for one of the greatest defensive plays in Super Bowl history.
The very next season Butler was selected to the Pro Bowl and made second team all pro... He played 7 seasons in the NFL, much longer than the average 3 or 4 seasons. Not bad for an undrafted free agent that nobody had ever heard of before that interception in Super Bowl XLIX.

There must be something special about those numbers... 2112... Awesome album by Rush too... How did they know in 1976 that 21 and 12 would combine to win Super Bowl XLIX?
Pretty dang hard to start another dynasty at that age!!
I was not a fan of Seattle, and so not that big on Wilson for a long time, but, he was a terrific QB, a very quality guy, and a devout Christian. I hope he does well at his new avocation!
Only needed one more.
I don’t see how a HOF player like that could lose it so quickly. Just remember he had a good defense and Marshawn Lynch to hand the ball off to when he won the SB in his 2nd year. When the big money started coming in the team had to make choices and needed him more to carry the load.
