The head of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary tells the BBC the force is "sorry for handcuffing and arresting Henry".
In an interview with the BBC's Lucy Manning, Chief Constable Alexis Boon says the bodycam footage of Henry Nowak being arrested and handcuffed after telling officers he had been stabbed was a "very difficult watch".
"What was filmed there is a tragedy, an absolute tragedy, you can't help but be affected by it."
He adds: "I really feel for the family of Henry at this time."
The chief constable says he understands "their point of view and why they're upset with the police", which he says is why the force have said "we are sorry for handcuffing and arresting Henry" at that time.

Very sad for the British people, and a serious warning to us in the U.S.
If that was in America, ‘sorry’ would not cut it, there would be lawsuits filed and ‘nice’ settlements quickly offered (with Non-Disclosure Agreements) to pull this story out of the News Cycle.

The chief should resign, and the officers involved should probably be receiving accessory charges for aiding in a murder.

The whole episode pisses me off. The cops, especially. Poor Henry was down on the street saying “I’ve been stabbed” and one cop replying (as he cuffed him) “Mate, no you haven’t.” Now a bland “We’re sorry Henry was murdered.” Sickening.

That the Chief Constable is nearly illiterate is of no surprise. Good Lord.
What happened was not a ‘tragedy’. It was a horrific display of incompetence, hubris, and a bit of malice that resulted in a man losing his life. It is so very comforting to hear that the Chief ‘feels for the family’. Again, Good Lord.

He had the good sense to resign though that cop and investigations are ongoing.
