What’s actually scary is the 1939 Yankees were one of if not the best team ever. No team scored more runs vs given up.

And they did this without Gehrig

If they had even an average Gehrig, they might have won 130 games. The 1st basemen who replaced him wasn’t that good, way below average of a player.

Only other team comparable is the 1976 Reds, (whom I believe are #2 in Runs scored vs given up), Johnny Bench stunk that year, if he only had an average Bench year they might have also won 130 games.

Yes but Bench had a hell of a World Series in 1976.
