The movie “Pride of the Yankees” came out in 1942 and probably by the time it got to the smaller towns, it was 1943..I was 7 years old. My dad was a great lover of baseball and we went to see it in the BIG CITY - probably 35-40 miles away from our farm and afterward, I cried all the way home...Never missed a Yankee game on the huge radio that stood in the living room after that - laid on the floor and kept score with pad and pencil. Chores? They could wait or were done before game time.. I sent for pictures of all the players at the time and lined my bedroom wall with them - 5x8?
Now the Braves have my attention - Toronto will be here tonight and I hope to see a tribute paid to Lou Gehrig before game time...IF I have my chores done - LOL!
