Guess what I get to do this morning? Replant every ONE of the TWENTY-THREE tomatoes we planted, yesterday! Yep. Raccoons.

A dog is being tied out in the garden tonight! Grrrrr!

And we had our planting system down to a science, and we thought a good, deep watering would tamp down any bone meal scent, but I guess not. Double Grrrr!

I’ll see ya all later. Hoping my ANGER will keep me motivated and I can make quick work of a two-hour job! Triple Grrrrr!

Oh, no! Good luck on the success of the re-plantings! Ny attempt to restore my strongest Better Boy eventually failed - more on that later as:

A) We have potentially severe weather happenin’.

B) I gotta make some breakfast!

Hopefully everyone’s June goes well!!! (Better!)

I had to give up on the bone meal.
Basil refused to germinate or was earwigged. I planted some indoors along with lemon pepper seeds. Early girls, cucumbers and squash are in the ground and volunteer tomatoes are thriving.

Gee, I get upset if one or two plants get dug up.

23??

I’d be well past deterrence, at that point!

My brother had the same problem - we can back from vacation and his entire garden was dug up - he thinks it was possums, but I believe it was skunks.

He’s going to try to put up a varmit-proof fence - good luck with that! I’ve fought gophers for decades in So Cal - and so far the gophers are winning.

I feel your pain. One year I came out to survey my new plants and they were all neatly bitten off about 2 inches above the soil. Deer. 😤

Wow - all 23! I would not be handling that situation very well, but I know you will ‘soldier’ on :-)

So sorry about your tomatoes. Hope the new batch stays safe.

I was letting a strawberry stay red for 3 days but the day I was going to pick it, something got there first and ate it and the unripe one next to it. Impressed they found it among all the greenery. Thinking I should be putting the bags on tables. Also will no longer feed the chipmunk peanuts near the plants.

I’ve had poor luck with seeds. Only the bush beans and pole beans and cucumbers seem enthusiastic about growing. 3 Sunset Gold tomatoes are holding their own and tiny, while 4 didn’t germinate and the other 3 died sad, slow deaths. The yellow squash didn’t even bother trying to germinate and let’s not mention my carrot disaster. Thank goodness for garden center plants and Bonnie Plants. Though my last set of strawberry plants from Bonnie came UPSIDE DOWN! Roots up and leaves at the bottom of the plant. Dry as dirt and the dirt everywhere in the box.

This spring, I prepped my beds by adding the bone meal and organic fertilizer about a week before planting.

I understand they are slow to break down so it wasn’
t wasted. But it also gave me the opportunity to see if something would try to dig from the smell of the bone meal.

I lost about 1/2 an onion crop once, because I used blood meal and something went after that. So now I add first and wait and if nothing disturbs the soil, then I plant.

We had a neighbor last night, warn us that he’s seen a bear around.
