Well, the temporary roof repair was good enough to keep water out during last night’s almost inch of rain in about 30 minutes. I’ll “improve” it a bit more tomorrow morning, with things dried out decently, I hope. I’d better not dally - rain is expected by afternoon.
Today was wifey’s birthday so we went out to eat a late b’day lunch, then she had church stuff going late afternoon and early evening while I ran errands in town. That latter was just as well - we DIDN’T get our forecast humidity break today, so working on the roof would have been a bit miserable. It’s tough enough, being a steep roof - which seems to have become steeper now that I’m a septuagenarian...
Ugh. Dewpoint of 75 deg. F today, and not as much breeze as was forecast.
Storms later - I hope we don’t recreate the SE WI, NW IL, and Northern IN scenario of a couple days ago.
I started yesterday and will continue on with weeding, today! Trust me, it is more than a one-day job!
For those of you who have Rural King stores nearby, our closest RK store has a lot of “nursery” stuff on 50% clearance, including some plants. Maybe yours does too?
They also had some starter plants, mostly tomatoes, from some brand called “Tasty Garden”, in little singles pots that couldn’t be much more than 10 oz. Yet, most of these plants, most of which were 12” tall at most, and mostly a bit “scrawny” looking, had one or two fruits 1/2” to 1” diameter on them. Some of the the “Sweet 100’s” were even to the point of “blushing” fruits.
I can guess that the vendor must have hit these with lots of phosphate to force blooming / fruiting, at the expense of the plant being big enough and healthy enough to support fruiting in the 1st place?
A small sign indicated these plants were on clearance for either 50 cents or a dollar, and “as marked”, but only a couple were marked... at 50 cents. A couple RK employees walked up and I asked about the price: One employee tried to pull a plant up by its bar code, and got $1.74. He shook his head and said I should go in and talk to a cashier.
So, I did just that, and the cashier allowed that she could sell the plants for 50 cents each. I figured what the heck - it would be interesting to see what I could get out of them, and bought 3. :-)
