MS NOW’s Daniels: ‘It’s Their Country’ on Cuba — But Not Apartheid South Africa

On Saturday's episode of MS NOW's The Weekend, co-host Eugene Daniels offered a revealing defense of the Cuban regime:

"It's their country, so them deciding what kind of government and political system they want to have, the leaders and the folks in that country, is their business, I think a lot of people would say."

This is the standard sovereignty shield used to protect dictatorships. Daniels ignored that Cuba has been ruled by communist tyrants since 1959, with no free elections and a long record of suppressing "the folks." If those "folks" had a chance to express themselves in a free and fair referendum, does Daniels doubt the great majority would choose freedom?

Iran. North Korea. Russia. Somalia. Yemen. Etc.) it is not “the people” who chose what government they have. It is the government, who has the only weapons and the police, who chooses what the people have.

Yes, it's their country, but it depends on who you mean by ‘their’. When you have a dictatorship, as all Marxist/Communist nations do, whose nation is it? Is it the nation of the armed dictatorship, or of the people who live there and have lost their freedom and God-given right to self-determine?

When you live in a nation like Communist Cuba and have to put your life at risk to escape/leave your country of birth, is it your nation, or is it the dictator's nation?

There's a reason television has been frequently called ‘the idiotic box’.

Americans and Trump may be confused about Cuba.

Almost all the Cubans who came to the USA in the early 1960s had European and USA ancestors.

Those Cubans have been highly successful in the USA, and a solid majority, including children and grand children, are Republicans.

Almost all the Cubans still in Cuba have African, Caribbean, and Native American ancestors.

They struggle financially and most are aligned with the Political Left.
