Either Mark Steyn or Rush Limbaugh suggested his “Just a Gigolo” to me. It is bouncy and catchy. Worth a listen.

The only reason I know Louis Prima’s name is because my father mentioned him to me when I was a young lad . I think he took my mother to see him in Hartford , CT when they were dating .

Prima also wrote “Sing Sing Sing (With a Swing), the Benny Goodman cover of which became Goodman’s signature number.

His one-time wife Keely Smith sang with his band. She had a great voice. Their 1958 rendition of “Old Black Magic” was one of my favorites.

Those who’ve seen Disney’s 1967 animated movie, The Jungle Book, will recognize Louis Prima’s husky, elastic voice, even if they’re not remotely familiar with his name or face...

I'm thenking of the swingers
The jungle VIP
I've reached the top and had to stop
That's what's bothering me!

The theme of the quirky, prize-winning film Big Night (starring Stanley Tucci, Tony Shaloub, Minnie Driver and Isabella Rossellini) is about two brothers who own a struggling Italian restaurant in the 50s throwing a dinner party to honor Louie Prima. Of course Prima's music is in the background. Love that nutty flick!

It’s rock and roll, just listen to the band on “just a gigolo” particularly the sax

Was only slightly familiar with him and Keely Smith. But watched a documentary on him a couple years ago. We all came away hugely impressed with his talent. And self destructive nature.

Can’t remember what streaming service. Wild guess it was Prime.

Lots and lots of live performance stuff.
