America’s most dangerous volcano is bound to blow, scientists warn — and it could devastate surrounding towns in minutes

Who will stop the Rain-ier? Scientists are warning that Washington’s Mount Rainier could unleash a catastrophic mudslide that has the potential to devastate three large towns within minutes.

Often considered the crown jewel of Washington postcards, the over 14,000-foot-tall mountain is deemed the most dangerous in the US due to its towering height, frequent earthquakes, and precarious location upstream of a population center with over 100,000 people.

While there is no evidence Rainier is about to blow its stack, magma is not the most dangerous fallout from the Cascade range’s preeminent volcano.

Apparently bears like Rainier Beer.

Slight tangent...

“While there is no evidence Rainier is about to blow its stack...”

That says it all.

I was rushed at by a bear on the side of Mt. Rainier once while eating lunch. He came straight at us across a pond. He probably got the pepperoni we were eating and dropped in our haste.

I keep telling my wife we need the 9mm with Buffalo Bore even in black bear country, but all the leftists on the trail would freak out.

LOL...”While there is no evidence Rainier is about to blow its stack...America’s most dangerous volcano is bound to blow...and it could devastate surrounding towns in minutes”

Gotta be a slow news day.

You might consider a larger caliber for bears.

I like the ones that start with “4.”

Tim Sundles, who owns Buffalo Bore, really likes .45 and larger caliber bullets.

I grew up on Oly, Hamms, Rainier, and Lucky Lager. Those were good times

Back 50 years ago I got a bottled Coors at a bar in Farmington NM. It was so bitter I could not finish it. I had to drink three Olympias to get the taste of that Coors out of my mouth.

Yeah, let’s just make up stuff to worry about. There isn’t enough imminent danger in the world.

Well, there you go. No need to carry a gun or pepper spray in bear country. If you get charged by a bear, just throw some pizza at him.

There is no evidence that it’s going to blow. But let’s get people worked up over what could happen.

Dumb.

I carry .357 with Buffalo Bore for Griz every time. That’ll drill a 4.5 foot hole through any part of Griz, and I’m a good shot under pressure.

As Dean Weingarten (“MarkTwain” here on FR) documents, most any caliber will work to deter Mr. Bear. I’m confident that 9mm Buffalo Bore will go at least 3 feet through black bear, and break off their attack.

If it weren’t for Rich (DainBrammaged, Resquiat In Pace) passing his guns to me before he passed, I’d get a .44 Magnum. But Rich had a sweet Ruger Blackhawk Flattop that’ll work just fine. Story here:
