The U.S. Postal Service reached a multiyear deal with DHL eCommerce for last-mile parcel delivery services in the United States expected to be worth more than $10 billion.

He said DHL either had "to invest a ton of capital to build out an end-to-end network, or they need to partner with someone that has that last mile capability" like USPS.

The deal is critical to the financially strapped USPS. Amazon.com said it had reached a new agreement with the U.S. Postal Service on package deliveries

Taxpayers need to know how the USPS reached its legal maximum debt of $15 billion.

That debt limit was set in the 70's and has not been adjusted for inflation in decades.

Message: The US Postal Service (USPS) is not supposed to be financed with tax dollars, but on USPS revenue from postage and services, which totaled roughly $80.5 billion in 2025.

The statement is factually correct, but you're using it to imply that the Postal Service is accessing federal funds. Is there a source or reference, because I've never heard this claim.

In the early 2000s Congress mandated that the Postal Service PREFUND retiree healthcare costs 75 YEARS into the future.

No other agency, company or corporation has such a mandate.

While it's laudable to encourage people to actively participate with and provide feedback to the government, they need accurate information, which you don't provide.

You're asking people to contact the govt to rant, basically.

The USPS has been handling delivery of packages for DHL for at least 9 years. Once they get through customs, they get handed to USPS for delivery. They must have renegotiated or renewed the deal

How soon before the USPS is crying that they are losing money in every DHL package?

DHL did stop delivery to the US when the tariffs went into place. Maybe they worked out an arrangement for collecting customs duties

Postal Regulatory Commission.gov povides Minor Funding:
<><>Congress provides roughly $38 million for 2026
<><>to cover free mail for the blind
<><>and election materials for overseas citizens.

Despite being self-funded, the USPS has often operated at
a loss since 2007 (reporting a $9 billion net loss in FY 2025).

The USPS does have competitive advantages, such as
an estimated $2 billion in annual tax exemptions.

Its Government Entity Status as a federal establishment, enjoys benefits such as
<><>exemption from state/local taxes
<><>and the ability to borrow from the U.S. Treasury.

As of March 2026, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has maxed out its statutory borrowing authority, holding $15 billion in debt from the U.S. Treasury.

This debt limit has remained unchanged since 1991, and the agency faces severe financial strain with ongoing net losses. Federal News Network

The USPS has utilized its full $15 billion capacity, which was primarily built up between 2007 and 2012 due to operating losses and prefunding obligations. Federal News Network

While a $10 billion loan was agreed upon under the CARES Act in 2020, this was separate from their borrowing limit. ——U.S. Department of the Treasury.gov

Unfunded Obligations: Beyond the direct Treasury debt, the USPS has also faced roughly $130 billion in total unfunded obligations, mostly consisting of retiree health and pension benefits.-—— R Street Institute

The agency is in a critical financial position due to years of net losses.-——— U.S. Government Accountability Office.gov

Thanks for the reply.

Congress is paying for postal services, like a customer. USPS is not being funded by taxes.

There's nothing unusual about a federal entity like the Postal Service - enjoying tax exemptions and the ability to borrow from the Treasury.

'operated at a loss since 2007..due to operating losses and prefunding obligations'

The federal govt routinely increases its debt limit, but the Postal Service can't. It is held to a much higher standard than the govt - which is $39T in debt.

People who criticize the Postal Service's financial management - - should take a look at DoD, which for decades has kept its books, for all intents and purposes - secret. It can't pass a financial audit, and routinely hides and obfuscates financial information which it is required by law to disclose. It is systemically corrupt - to the tune of $TRILLIONS.

But let's slam on the the Postal Service!

Lol........EVERYthing Congress pays for is from our taxes.

Congress (and the govt) have no other source of income .....it all comes from tax revenue.
