Anya Taylor-Joy, acclaimed for her roles in hits like The Queen’s Gambit, found herself at the center of controversy after her appearance at the Dune 2 premiere on Thursday.
The actress, who confirmed her role in the sequel alongside stars like Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, sparked criticism for her outfit choice, described by some as "problematic."
Taylor-Joy adorned a white floor-length gown accompanied by a hooded veil, reminiscent of traditional Muslim attire, particularly a burka and hijab.
While she made a stunning entrance on the red carpet in the Dior ensemble, fans were quick to point out the resemblance to garments worn by Muslim women, sparking a heated debate on social media platforms.

"They will cosplay as Muslim women but never speak up for them," expressed one user on Twitter, capturing the sentiment echoed by many others.
Others condemned the choice as "disgusting" and highlighted the double standards at play. "So modesty in dressing is only oppressive and backwards when it’s practiced by Muslim women. Got it," remarked another Twitter user, reflecting on the perceived hypocrisy.
However, some defended Taylor-Joy, suggesting that the outfit could draw inspiration from various cultures and religions, including Catholicism. Amid the heated debate, one social media user urged restraint, emphasizing the need to understand the context behind Taylor-Joy's attire before passing judgment.

Zendaya donned a vintage Thierry Mugler silver bodysuit, capturing attention and applause from fans and fashion enthusiasts alike.
Dune: Part Two boasts a star-studded cast including Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, and Austin Butler. Set in a desert landscape reminiscent of the Middle East, the film adaptation of Frank Herbert's fantasy novels promises an epic cinematic experience.
Taylor-Joy, long rumored to join the ensemble, confirmed her role with enthusiasm, expressing her excitement for the project and the opportunity to work with esteemed collaborators. As anticipation builds for the sequel, fans await further developments while the debate over Taylor-Joy's outfit choice continues to simmer.
Some of them. I knew a woman that is from the U.S., but Pakistani, and she was amazingly gorgeous. Not sure if she is that religious.
Where’s a sandworm when ya need one??
All of the bene gesserit wear a hooded aba... It’s literally in the books...

That was my first thought when I saw it.
Exactly!
SO SILLY.
So if you wear a white gown with a gossamer hood that’s cosplaying muslim?
Ridiculous. I think she looks lovely. And it’s completely in keeping with her character in Dune as Alia, Paul Atreides sister, who was born a Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother.
Political correctness is a disease.
Full face exposure = not muslim.
White see thru fabric = not even in the same universe as muslim.
There are other angles where you can clearly see the dress underneath, with wide exposure of her cleavage, only slightly obscured arms and shoulders. That outfit would get her invited to a rock concert in muzzieland.
Neither of the people that icon represents are in any way, shape, or form, mohammedans.
The morons from the prissy, celebrity media darlings are doing their best to display the vapours from things they know nothing about.
People need to get a life. She looks fine. Nothing Muslim about her..............
M<any people apparently have no idea what is in Dune and where the inspiration for the Fremen came from.
An actress wearing an outfit on the red carpet that echoes her character in the movie? Horrors!!!
Will the micro-offenses of Hollywood never cease?
ATJ obviously should have dressed like a 17th century Pilgrim farm girl, or perhaps a teenage/early 20’s alcoholic chess player, since those were her breakout roles and she is racially qualified to have played them.
Don’t confuse The Woke mob with Captain Obvious stuff. None of them have read Dune or have any idea about the story.
Never heard of, or saw any of, these Hollywood communists...
As far as desert scenes in Dune being similar to those of Earth's middle east, they are more like America's western sand deserts...
IAC, Dune is a planet far, far away, and, surely, sandy deserts can be found on millions of planets in our galaxy...
“...this outfit is a variation of one she wore in the dune movie, where the people on Arrakis wear very middle eastern inspired clothing...”
That’s what I was thinking!
I hope next time she wears a sombrero!
